Lucy Steigerwald on Big Government vs. Small Government Conservatism
Rand Paul, the junior Republican senator from Kentucky, and Andrew C. McCarthy, a former assistant U.S. attorney who now writes for National Review, represent twin opposing pillars of American conservatism. Both are ostensibly Republicans, but the latter has a fundamental faith in government power, even with a Democrat in the White House, while the former not only dislikes what he considers to be unconstitutional government overreach but often preaches the virtues of a fundamental distrust of government power. And unfortunately, writes Associate Editor Lucy Steigerwald, Rand Paul is the one who is out of step with today's GOP.
