If Obama were to wear a military uniform, I am pretty certain he’d give himself six stars.

    C-

    1. sloopyinca   14 years ago

Upon further reflection, I’m still stumped as to who is being portrayed in the caption. Based on the alignment of the stars on the flag, this would be a president running when we had 48 states.*

*it may be Obama after all, but I cannot confirm it because google search does not give me an image of the flag with 57 stars on it.

      1. The Art-P.O.G.   14 years ago

It’s a Patton reference, ergo the star alignment is appropriate. Overall, this is a pretty good cartoon. B+. A-, even.

        1. The Art-P.O.G.   14 years ago

Although your 57-star remark is pretty darn good as well.

        2. junior   14 years ago

I thought it was the guy from the dirty dozen

          1. The Art-P.O.G.   14 years ago

He does look kind of like Lee Marvin there.

            1. George V   14 years ago

              Thank you junior and Art-POG.

          2. Colonel_Angus   14 years ago

Terrible movie. They ruined the concept by making it a cartoonish comedy that wasn’t that funny. If it was a serious movie it could have been badass for its time.

            1. Bucky   14 years ago

              i smell a re-make…

              1. Tim Burton   14 years ago

                Oops. Sorry. That was me.

        3. capitol l   14 years ago

I think that you’re giving Bok credit for being more intelligent than he actually is. Besides, rule 92-A informs us that Friday “Funnies” can only be enjoyed ironically or accidentally.

It’s right there in the H&R bylaws.

          1. The Art-P.O.G.   14 years ago

I think an appropriate alternate voice bubble from the first panel would be: “This ain’t rock ‘n roll. This is genocide!”

            1. SugarFree   14 years ago

Excellent. Halloween Jack is a real cool cat, after all.

              1. The Art-P.O.G.   14 years ago

Anachronistically, I always insist Bowie was talking about Jack Skellington in that song.

                1. SugarFree   14 years ago

If anyone can see into the future in order to anticipate the baby-goth movement, it’s Bowie.

                  1. The Art-P.O.G.   14 years ago

You are absolutely correct on that count.

      2. Scooby   14 years ago

See this for your 57 star flag.

No that one gold star represents his grade point average at the Harvard Remedial Law School for really well connected rich parents with really stupid kids who need semi-legitimate papers so the kids stop living at home with mom and dad. (or Grandma and Grampa as the case may be)

      1. Karl   14 years ago

sorry by Grandma and Grandpa I meant to say typical white grandma and grandpa.

  2. sloopyinca   14 years ago

His right leg looks like Africa.

    RAAAAAAACIST!!!!!!!!!!

    1. Bob   14 years ago

Both legs kinda look like fried chicken, so definitely raaaaacist.

  3. Fist of Etiquette   14 years ago

Hey, Caucasian Obama, do you have two more comically oversized ears in your pockets or are just happy to see me?

    1. capitol l   14 years ago

It’s really Roberto Luongo. He’s hiding from shame in that silly disguise.

      1. Fist of Etiquette   14 years ago

It’s not his fault. You know how unstoppable Geno is in the shoot-oot.

Have I lowered my standards?Occasionally, I give the Friday Funnies decent marks. This is one of those times.

      1. The Art-P.O.G.   14 years ago

Space bars. How do they work?

        1. Colonel_Angus   14 years ago

You need some kind of vacuum sealed containers or tube system.

          1. The Art-P.O.G.   14 years ago

Bwah ha, ha! True. Also a cantina band with Max Rebo.

      2. capitol l   14 years ago

See, I’m sure that Bok meant to draw a riding crop in Obama’s hand, but it looks like a poorly rendered golf club, which would be apropos for our link-happy commander in chief. Bok treads to lightly on the surface of things to make that kind of connection though.

Bok’s high marks are like those for a kid who randomly fills out a multiple choice test and gets the answers right; sure it’s an ‘A’ but he doesn’t know why it’s an ‘A”.

In conclusion, Chip Bok is probably the worst person to attempt an artistic career since that German guy in the ’20s.

        1. The Art-P.O.G.   14 years ago

In Bok’s defense, it’s a pretty tough format. He has to do a lot of work over a short period of time, and I’m certain he doesn’t have the help of a writing team or research team.

        2. Germany   14 years ago

  8. Fluffy   14 years ago

This looks like Obama went through The Fly Transporter with Reagan’s corpse.

    Oh, and SUCK IT YANKEEEEEZZZZZ

  9. capitol l   14 years ago

And relieving taxpayers of their burden doesn’t qualify as class warfare, really.

If Obama wanted less people to pay taxes I think we’d all be on board.

    1. Bob   14 years ago

Not if the non-payers are still on the govt. teat.

      1. capitol l   14 years ago

So it’s better for people to pay taxes to support those that don’t than for the tax payers to be relieved of their burden?

        1. The Art-P.O.G.   14 years ago

It’s better than the deficit growing even larger, I suppose. Not that it matters much because the deficit will keep growing anyway.

          1. Bucky   14 years ago

if bok is going to use a visual with a patton reference then he should have him saying “…you get the other bastard to PAY for his over-grown government!”

            1. The Art-P.O.G.   14 years ago

              Not bad at all.

            2. BigT   14 years ago

              Hahaha! Nice

  10. jacob the barbarian   14 years ago

Comrade Marshal Obama!? — maybe he would prefer the uniform of the zampolit. The chart is bitchin too, but tax v. nontax payer? Nyet! Enemy-of-the-people v. worker hero!

    1. jacob the barbarian   14 years ago

      Bok, I think you suck.

      1. The Art-P.O.G.   14 years ago

C’mon. This cartoon rocks. Alles klar, Herr Kommissar?

    I don’t get it.

  14. Xenocles   14 years ago

White Obama looks a lot like W.

  15. Bee Tagger   14 years ago

Will you in the media drop the Al Gore “fuzzy math” thing already? That was like 11 years ago!

  16. Warty   14 years ago

I actually liked this one. I didn’t think that was possible.

    1. The Art-P.O.G.   14 years ago

In the off chance the Friday Funny is actually decent, it was probably Bok’s work instead of Payne’s.

      Well done, Bok.

      1. capitol l   14 years ago

I just don’t get it. Are we supposed to not like Obama because he wants to lower taxes now?

This cartoon could be in my local paper and the guy in uniform could be Rick Perry. True story.

        1. The Art-P.O.G.   14 years ago

I saw this whole subtext in my mind of more people being nonpayers because they were underemployed or unemployed (with growing welfare apparatus), while the tax burden on those who still earned was increased.

I also saw those ‘smiles’ of the nonpayers as ironic, because they were really quite impoverished. Maybe I over- or under- thought this cartoon.

          1. sloopyinca   14 years ago

Since over-thinking isn’t even an option, that leaves you with one option.

            No tag backs!

[runs and hides from scathing retort]

            1. The Art-P.O.G.   14 years ago

:::Shakes fist at sky while camera pans back dramatically:::

          2. k2000k   14 years ago

Maybe those smiles are the illustrative illusion of Obama thinking. The rich are frowning because they now they are evil rich and SO desperately want Obama to steal their money. While the poor are happy because they aren’t greedy and are fully in the loving (soul crushing) embrace the welfare machine.

            1. The Art-P.O.G.   14 years ago

This is also a good interpretation in my opinion.

  17. Almanian   14 years ago

    1) Why has Bok portrayed Omar Bradley as George Patton? Is this some kind of meta on the barely-sub-rosa tension between the two, and how…no, never mind.

    2) Needs moar labels.

    1. The Art-P.O.G.   14 years ago

One of these days, Bok is going to snap and 65% of the panel will be taken up by labels (POTUS dressed as Patton, riding crop reminiscent of golf club, etc.). It will be glorious.

      1. Patton   14 years ago

Bok, you magnificient bastard I read your cartoon!

        1. The Art-P.O.G.   14 years ago

          Threadwinner.

  18. kilroy   14 years ago

I kinda liked it. Solid B.

    1. The Art-P.O.G.   14 years ago

It’s pretty good, which is why I guess there aren’t very many comments.

  19. P Brooks   14 years ago

White Obama looks a lot like W.

    Now we’re getting somewhere.
