  1. WWNGD?   14 years ago

I dislike this cartoon because of the thickness of the lines in the drawing.
    Have a good weekend Reasonites!

    1. Art-P.O.G.   14 years ago

Too much to hope this was the real Nick Gillespie?

  2. Aqua Buddha   14 years ago

At least it was funnier than the riots themselves.

  3. Aqua Buddha   14 years ago

Everyone in the cartoon is white. Bok is therefore racist, and therefore all libertarians are racist, and therefore any attempt to cut the size of govt is racist.

    1. Mr Whipple   14 years ago

      BINGO

    2. Your Teacher   14 years ago

      D- for multiple clich? violations.

  4. dbcooper   14 years ago

Joke's on you Bok, we ain't got no LTE here yet. Cop that!

  5. sage   14 years ago

    I thought ipads were 4G.

  6. Aqua Buddha   14 years ago

    This is funnier:

No shooting events in front of the kids
Boris wants to stop yoof from watching Olympic shooting events because of their gun-glorifying effect. Is he joking?

    1. dbcooper   14 years ago

      Boris is a toffee-nosed clown.

My buddy saw him riding his bike the other day and managed to get his attention by yelling "Boris ya bloody wanker!" My mate was quite chopped at the time.

      1. Art-P.O.G.   14 years ago

'Chopped'? I'm assuming this is slang for 'pissed'?

        1. Art-P.O.G.   14 years ago

          'Pissed (UK)'

          1. dbcooper   14 years ago

Yup. It's antipodean slang, but I think it's entered the UK vernacular now too.

      2. Greer   14 years ago

Mate, chopped, wanker? What language are you speaking?

        1. Paul   14 years ago

He pulled his motor over to the curb, put a few coppers in the box, rang up the clark and said there's been a bit of a cock-up, a kerfuffle, and he'd appreciate it if it could be put straight.

          1. PermaLurker   14 years ago

that would be kerb, you wanker

    2. goober1223   14 years ago

      Boris! Why always Boris...

  7. Fist of Etiquette   14 years ago

So now it's a crime to carry around an Etch A Sketch and a block of Swiss cheese? Fuckin' police state.

    1. Doktor Kapitalism   14 years ago

I don't know what color *your* cheese is...

      1. Fist of Etiquette   14 years ago

Are you coming on to me?

  8. Art-P.O.G.   14 years ago

    S'addite.

  11. dbcooper   14 years ago

The Onion has a rather amusing send-up of libertarians here:

    http://www.theonion.com/articl.....and,21205/

    1. Oprah   14 years ago

Annual contest to see which island-dweller can best hijack a normal conversation with a tirade about the corrupt U.S. tax code

I nominate Aqua Buddha, with honorable mention to John.

      1. dbcooper   14 years ago

        This was a nice detail:

Emergency blue-light phones that connect directly to the Cato Institute

        1. Oprah   14 years ago

Ha! The joke's on them. Reason libertarians know that Cato is too intellectual.

          1. Paul   14 years ago

Cato's that guy who attacked Inspector Clouseau every night, right?

            1. Jimbo   14 years ago

No, he's O.J.'s right hand man.

              1. Art-P.O.G.   14 years ago

So sad to go from working for the Green Hornet to working for OJ.

    2. sarcasmic   14 years ago

Penn and Teller, every Thursday night

      Sign me up!

      1. Bill   14 years ago

        What! No, Bill Maher?

    3. WWNGD?   14 years ago

      A bunch of Republicans anyway

      le sigh.

    4. Bucky   14 years ago

i thought the horrible-scopes were funnier...
then again, i was very sad when Life was cancelled...

    5. Paul   14 years ago

Huge pile of free guns right in the middle of each island

That's not funny, that would kick ass!

      1. yonemoto   14 years ago

        free guns

        What are we, socialists?

        1. Art-P.O.G.   14 years ago

I think they just mean 'free' in the sense that the guns are also libertarian.

  12. Sinic   14 years ago

The looter's teeth are too straight.

    1. Art-P.O.G.   14 years ago

      Goosebumps.

  13. Art-P.O.G.   14 years ago

I give Bok +1 point for not drawing Big Ben.

  14. Mr Whipple   14 years ago

Is this supposed to be about the rioting in London, or the flash mobs in Philly? This seems like a mixed metaphor to me.

    1. sloopyinca   14 years ago

      rioting in London

      Needs moar ay-rabs

      flash mobs in Philly

      Needs more negroes

      1. Mr Whipple   14 years ago

        Exactly

  15. Fist of Etiquette   14 years ago

Plus, the chav's teeth are not crooked enough.

    1. Bee Tagger   14 years ago

It wouldn't be reason.com if the cops weren't more crooked than a brit's teeth.

      1. Fist of Etiquette   14 years ago

The bobbies are leaning a bit, although that might be them backing away from that soul-stealing portable recording device.

  16. Frak Monanh   14 years ago

Friday Friday dont we all love Friday.

  17. Fluffy   14 years ago

The British police are too masculine. They look like cement head American cops.

Since they're British, shouldn't they be mincing around with cups of tea, doing silly walks and shit?

    1. dbcooper   14 years ago

Most brit cops are bald, endomorphic types.

      1. Fluffy   14 years ago

Funny, I always thought they looked like Mr. Bean.

      2. Paul   14 years ago

        British cops.

  18. Warty   14 years ago

    I don't get it.

    1. NeonCat   14 years ago

This cartoon is a take-off of an AT&T ad in which a bunch of people in trench coats, black t-shirts and jeans are in a train station. Noon comes, and a loser white dude starts doing a dance routine as everyone stares at him. He looks up and realizes he is the only one dancing. His phone blurps at him and he sees that the flash mob has been moved to 12:30. He apologizes to the p.o.'d looking white woman and disappointed black guy nearby.

      1. Almanian   14 years ago

*gives the "Jesus Fucking Christ - REALLY?" stare*

        1. Fatty Bolger   14 years ago

The ad's not bad, but it's hardly iconic enough to base a cartoon on.

          1. goober1223   14 years ago

It is bad because what sort of organizational skills would you have to move a flash mob time at the last moment? And what sort of douchnozzle would only watch the clock instead of looking around at all of the other people that were supposed to do it.

Not the worst ever. Certainly at least partially entertaining.

            Solid "C".

  19. Fluffy   14 years ago

Also, since this is an internet cartoon, there's really no reason you couldn't have embedded a sound file into the page to play the Benny Hill theme.

    -1 for missing the obvious.

    1. Bee Tagger   14 years ago

You want just the sound from Benny Hill???

    2. Hank   14 years ago

All my lands and titles to the man who can attach that sound file to every archived clip of Dems and Reps "debating" the debt ceiling.

      1. Ska   14 years ago

Yakkity Sax should always be playing in the background on CSPAN 2.

        1. Paul   14 years ago

          This.

  20. Late   14 years ago

Has anyone mentioned crooked teeth yet?

    1. Paul   14 years ago

      No, please do.

      1. Art-P.O.G.   14 years ago

I honestly think this was only the first (OK, maybe second) crooked teeth joke in this thread that was self-consciously ironic.

  21. Lord Humungus   14 years ago

    har har.
    http://s3.amazonaws.com/kym-as.....1313634148

  22. Fluffy   14 years ago

In addition to my earlier remarks, let me note in passing that the teeth of the UK residents portrayed in this cartoon are far too straight.

  23. rather not   14 years ago

One eyed rioter and a bobby who has a scrotum chin.

  24. sarcasmic   14 years ago

I like the subtle commentary on how the Brit rioters are rich kids.
No low or middle class Brit has teeth that straight.

    1. Bucky   14 years ago

well, at least he wasn't wearing a white and black checkered scarf on his face...

  25. Tim   14 years ago

I split my sides laughing. Reason should also run Family Circus.

    1. FlyoverCountry   14 years ago

Make it a trifecta of funny with Marmaduke!

      1. R   14 years ago

Add Garfield and I'll be sure to read it...

        1. Almanian   14 years ago

          What, no "Cathy"?

          1. Paul   14 years ago

Throw in something from Gary Trudeau and I'll never cancel my subscription.

            1. Art-P.O.G.   14 years ago

Trudeau, Larson, MacGruder, Watterson, Schultz and a handful of others have successfully created good art and good storytelling where it seemed unlikely, given the format.

Cartoons like Marmaduke and Family Circus on the other hand, survive by being 'relatable' instead of good.

      2. emerson   14 years ago

What is that dog going to sit on next?

      3. goober1223   14 years ago

Come on, they have to add something that's got a really long story line that's never worth it, like Gil Thorp or Mark Trail or Dick Tracy. And I only know of those because of the Comics Curmudgeon.

  26. Jerry   14 years ago

    The teeth are too white.

  27. Hank   14 years ago

    I should have looted a 4G.

So this will be his second flash mob so far? Ambitious bugger.

    Also, teeth.

    1. goober1223   14 years ago

Yeah, didn't make sense to me either. Serial flash mobbing is just another way of saying "looting with friends". Now THERE'S an app idea!

  28. Aqua Buddha   14 years ago

I split my sides laughing. Reason should also run Family Circus.

I vote we create a "Dysfunctional Friday Funnies" website. Other than this one, of course.

    1. Art-P.O.G.   14 years ago

We should see if we can get Seanbaby to provide the captions.

  29. Mike M.   14 years ago

Why did Bok put a roller coaster in the background?

  30. guy in the back row   14 years ago

Haven't we moved on to the next crisis? Those riots were so two weeks ago.

  31. Opie   14 years ago

    What's with the nice teeth?

  32. Sparky   14 years ago

I think these cartoons are intentionally bad to allow the comedic genius of the H&R posters to shine through. Or maybe I'm giving him too much credit. Oh and what's with the straight teeth?

    1. H&R posters   14 years ago

Genius is relative, of course. On the family tree, we're the baboons.

      1. The Non-frakers   14 years ago

        We're the amoebas.

  33. P Brooks   14 years ago

    Needs more labels.

  34. Alan Vanneman   14 years ago

    Funniest "Reason" cartoon eveah!

On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being "The General" and 10 being "The Three Stooges Fuck Meet Snow White," this ranks a good -38, much higher than any previous Friday Funnie!*

*Is it possible that someday "Reason" might try some, you know, market forces on the whole cartoon thing, instead of this lousy stinking monopoly shit they've got going now?

    1. Victorkhan   14 years ago

I just paid $22.87 for an iPad2-64GB and my girlfriend loves her Panasonic Lumix GF 1 Camera that we got for $38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $675 which only cost me $62.81 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from, HitPenny.?om

      1. Doktor Kapitalism   14 years ago

        What's with the ce*dille?

        *Accent acute

  35. Alan Vanneman   14 years ago

OK, mathematically that's incoherent, but you get the point. Down is up, up is down.

    1. Art-P.O.G.   14 years ago

Well, you were being deliberately hyperbolic, so it works.

  36. Almanian   14 years ago

If I were sage, I would say

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

    1. I   14 years ago

I thought that was Episiarch's schtick.

  37. squishua   14 years ago

Bok copies an ad I saw on tv last night. Boooo!

    1. Art-P.O.G.   14 years ago

Well, I'd give him the benefit of the doubt and say he probably independently arrived at the same joke.

      1. Art-P.O.G.   14 years ago

Whoops, never mind. But I think 'reference' is more apt than 'rip-off'.

  38. Todd   14 years ago

I love this cartoon, this is literally what this rioting was about. Bunch of hooligans trying to loot and steal instead of getting jobs.

  39. Fist of Etiquette   14 years ago

    Teeth.

  40. C. Al Currier   14 years ago

    "Annual contest to see which island-dweller...." Oprah|8.26.11 @ 7:57AM

Self-employed individuals file quarterly, not yearly (annual). The contest should be monthly, or at the absolute very least, quarterly.

  41. Bob   14 years ago

Well they got the Friday part right

  42. Blue sky   14 years ago

    Haha, good idea.

  43. Moncler   14 years ago

The majority of us understand individuals produced by the actual Sperry Organization which have created the term topsiders children title.
