What vote? Houston’s red light cameras are on again in spite of referendum; tickets to follow soon
The effort to permanently dismantle the city’s red light camera system has come to a grinding halt with Mayor Annise Parker’s decision to reinstate the program starting Wednesday. Following a brief period of equipment testing, violators will begin to receive tickets again ? despite the referendum to turn the cameras off that Houston voters passed in November.
“This is a difficult decision,” Parker says in a statement….
Justice Department Obstructing ‘Fast and Furious’ Gun Probe, ATF Director Says
The Justice Department is obstructing the congressional investigation of a U.S. law enforcement operation intended to crack down on major weapons traffickers on the Southwest border, according to the embattled leader of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Ken Melson, the acting director of the ATF, lobbed the accusation when he sneaked in for an interview with congressional investigators on July 4, two days ahead of his scheduled interview with the inspector general about the operation known as “Fast and Furious,” Fox News has learned….
red light camera?..remove front plate
Brilliant. The pictures they take here are of the rear of the car.
not in ohio
Yes they are, you miserably stupid little fucking cunt.
I pull the strings, the puppets dance.

dance dance dance my little meat puppet fap fap fap fap fap YEAARGH!!!
hey dumbshit warty, i live in a city w red light cameras & here they ONLY photo the front plate.
That’s fucking hilarious, you illiterate little know-nothing prick. I still have my PA plate on my car, and the city of Cleveland has given me a photo ticket. I’ll give you one guess whether I have a front plate, dipshit.
little more warty ngh almost finished promise wont get any in yr hair ngh nugh
u r dum yr mk i lol k
warty – i removed my front plate AFTER getting a red light camera ticket w a photo of my front plate. none since in over a yr & i still go thru cameras on stale yellow lights…which sometimes change to red as i go thru.
You’re still arguing this? Shut the fuck up, moron. You don’t know what you’re talking about.
im stating exactly what happened w my red light camera ticket. ur arguing
Then get a ticket for not having a front plate on your car, and enjoy the red light ticket from the camera behind you.
Front plate? What the hell is that?
Here in Ohio, front plates are mandatory.
no front plate is a $25 fine vs $100 for the red light ticket. plus ive been thru safety & DUI chpoints w no issue.
They didn’t require them in AZ, but they do require them in WI. I prefer how my car looks without the plate so I go without it. Been stopped many times, never had it be an issue.
I preferred the look of my car without the licence plate too. Until I got $150 ticket – car was just parked on the street.
When then that happen? Last I lived there (sure it was almost 20 years ago) they weren’t yet.
In Texas, not having a front plate is also a violation.
Bullshit! Man, I knew they were gonna keep those cameras running when I realized they had never gotten around to taking them down, despite the obligations to do so.
time for some citizen action.

Paint balls.
And how come Tulpa hasn’t weighed in on this vital issue yet?
Police checked the tracker device fitted to the van, which showed it had arrived in Hyde, stopped on Mottram Road and then returned to the Doncaster area, where it was parked outside Moore’s home address.
What the fuckity-fuck?
oh, the UK is always on the bleeding edge on nannyism.
I think what has Houstonians so mad is that Mayor Porker could be doing a lot of things right now other than just throwing up her hands – countersuing, negotiating, taking the case to a jury trial. But the city had become quite accustomed to that “free” money rolling in and being mostly statists anyway (because of the way Texas municipality/party law works), they had no problem at all with the concept of big brother watching intersections under the guise of “safety”. So the mayor campaigned against the vote and now she isn’t putting up much of a fight to have it enforced now that a judge has given her an excuse not to.
Even if there was some sort of technicality effecting the way the election was conducted it takes a special kind arrogance to direct disregard a popular vote like that and act like nothing happened.
Find somewhere else in the budget to cut, raise property taxes by a penny, do something, but don’t just spit on the citizens like that. I see no way that she gets reelected now.
Oh, she’ll get re-elected. The red light camera vote wasn’t a runaway. The thing that gets me is that City Council could get rid of the cameras whenever they wanted; they’re just happier having the money roll in. I know there’s a penalty clause for cancelling the contract, but hell, appeal the ruling—that Parker is claiming she needs permission from Hughes to appeal his ruling is ridiculous—and claim force majeure. You’re telling me ATS won’t settle? The only way this is going to get changed is if the bastards on the Council who voted for this get voted out, and their successors feel that paying any penalty clause is less onerous than losing their jobs.
Why do we never see Johnny Longtorso and Aqua Buddha in the same place?
[THE EMPIRE] is somehow involved.
We are innocent!
I am curious as to how Mayor Parker thinks she can defy the results of the referendum.
I can sort of see how she can just ask the city council to pass a new enabling bylaw, but how does she expect to survive politically?
I am an inspiration to mayors everywhere.
Email Confirms ‘Gunwalker’ Known Throughout Justice Department
An email cited in Senator Charles Grassley’s testimony in front of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on Operation Fast and Furious indicates that knowledge of the program was spread across the highest levels of the Justice Department. This lends even greater suspicion to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder’s claim that he knew nothing about the program until well after Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was killed.
The October 27, 2009 email from ATF Phoenix Field Division Special Agent in Charge (SAC) William Newell regarded a Southwest Border Strategy Group meeting that focused on Fast and Furious. It contained a laundry list of high ranking Justice Department officials that attended the meeting…
Gunwalker: The ATF’s Kenneth Melson Blows the Whistle on the Justice Department
…Contrary to the Justice Department’s denials, according to Melson, ATF agents specifically witnessed transfers of weapons from straw purchasers to third parties without taking any further action. Melson claimed that it was not until the public disclosure of the operation that he personally reviewed the “hundreds of documents” related to the case. He said he became “sick to his stomach” when he learned the full story. Even more shocking is that some of the “gun trafficking ‘higher-ups’ that the ATF sought to identify were already known to other agencies and may even have been paid as informants” by agencies such as the FBI and the DEA….
I hope to God that a lot of the right people go to prison for this.
As a non-follower of the MBM, is any of this being picked up?

Krugabe sets new record for number of strawman arguments in one article
“What our economy needs is direct job creation by the government and mortgage-debt relief for stressed consumers. What it very much does not need is a transfer of billions of dollars to corporations that have no intention of hiring anyone except more lobbyists.”
Well at least he comes right out and says it at the end. All new jobs need to be government jobs, obviously.
You see the stimulus failed because of those evil corporations that didn’t hire anybody when we were handing out all of that money. So now we just need to hire people to sit on their hands and that will solve everything.
Seriously, this guy has a PhD in economics? He’s just flat out lying. Nobody who understands “debt-based currency” can possibly make these claims without being a total fucking idiot. Turn in your diploma and you Nobel Prize, Krugnuts.
I bet his Nobel Prize isn’t for surviving deadly neurotoxin.
The Krugman won’t stop until every job in America is sent overseas.
And only then does he whip off his mask…
Why does ANYONE listen to Krugman, let alone consider him a credible person?
Only took them 8 months, but the City of Houston has decided to ignore the results of the election and turn the red light cameras back on.
The mayor and the city council never wanted to get rid of that cash cow and are quite happy to get the political cover to go back to the status quo. Even if the referendum really was invalid on some kind of technicality, more honorable politicians would find some other way to plug the holes in the budget and respect the obvious – quantified – will of the people.
Buddha beat me to it.
Gay history now a required class in California schools,
http://news.yahoo.com/californ…..38470.html
Ten years from now, we’ll all laugh when Jay Leno does his man-on-the-street interviews, and they know the historical relevance of Stonewall Jackson, but have no idea what the Stonewall Riot was.
That’s an interesting idea. I wonder if we can effect proper education by having the public schools teach only irrelevant things, which in turn would make the important things cool and therefore automatically widely known.
Class, describe the important attributes of the Pokemon character Metapod ….
Will Gay History class be before or after Ebonics class? Before or after lunch?
Right after wymyns studies.
Now that makes sense. Boys need to be emasculated first.
As a history major and history buff, I’m not against their attempt at an integrated approach, but I do think this: There aren’t that many gay historical figures. Hamilton is a maybe, Edward II the Confessor is a certainly, Richard the Lionheart was probably bi, and the Greeks… were, well, the Greeks.
I first saw this while looking for links at Jezebel, and someone said, “It is ridiculous I didn’t know who Harvey Milk was till I was 25.” Um:
A) You are stupid.
B) Harvey Milk really didn’t matter. He was city fucking councilman, who yes, was openly gay, but what made him important was his assassination and the reaction to it, not his policies. For example, I can not name you the first Black councilman elected in the US- he’s a historical footnote.
Also, how about we teach history properly first? To wit: The Civil War was not about slavery.
John M. Langston is not a “footnote”!
I used to teach kids history. One day, we were playing pictionary and all the kids made fun of the one kid who didn’t know who Rosa Parks was.
Next pictionary topic was the Confederacy (this was in North Carolina, BTW). None of the kids knew what it was.
How did Rosa Parks become more important than the frigging civil war?
Outkast wrote a song by that title, that’s how.
To hear people I know from NC tell it, not an hour goes by without someone shouting the south will rise again!
right after the tractor pulls are done.
For example, I can not name you the first Black councilman elected in the US- he’s a historical footnote.
RACIST!
Of course, slavery was just code language for states rights.
This spoof is winful.
But it’s how liberals roll… they *hate* states’ rights, so they link it to slavery. Blather, rinse, repeat.
Your precious constitution was forever stained by the fact that Southern politicians didn’t want to give up their vast stock of free labor. They were so adamant that it led to an awful bloody war. ‘States’ rights’ may have taken on other issues in the interim but the single biggest issue historically for Southern states insisting on their power in contrast to the Federal government was their desire to maintain the system of forced unpaid labor. It’s not pretty, and it paints the Southern states in a bad light, but that’s just too bad. Slavery was a major aspect of this country’s early history and it did have major repercussions. If you’re unaware of the connection then that’s your problem to correct.
Are you fucking retarded? The northern businessmen across New England in their pretty little factories didn’t want slavery to end either. If it did that would mean they’d have to pay more for the cotton and produce that the South provided, cutting into their profits.
thx for making the point that business must be regulated
Our ancestors were flawed human beings with blind spots and often self-serving.
News at 11.
Tony, you are making a bizarre and stupid claim. The linking of State’s Rights to the Civil War is mostly a creation of the 20th century (conflating Jim Crow/segregation with chattel slavery). If you look at primary sources from the era, you will find scant mention of State’s Rights in regard to issues of secession, slavery, union, et al. The Confederate States of America respected State’s Rights even less than the Union: fugitive slave acts, suspension of habeas corpus, use of state militia, Hell the CSA initiated a draft well before the USA needed to do so.
You’re right, states’ rights language in the 10th century was mostly about pushback against the feds in order to keep black people from full personhood.
States rights in the 10th Century? What does Leif Eiriksson have to do with any of this?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/10th_century
I mean, States Rights in the 18 century had more to do with the tariff (see: Nullification Crises) and who declared laws unconstitutional (see: Cherokee, Removal of) than actual slavery. Slavery was in the Constitution in the 3/5 clause, and the South loved to argue how to eliminate slavery would be a violation of the national law.
Admittedly, the Civil War was about whether a state had the right to secede, but as I stated above, the Civil War wasn’t about slavery, but about a larger set of issues, the majority of which did in fact relate to slavery.
Your precious Constitution is a piece of shit.
How long ago, again, was the Civil War?
Fine. Go write another one.
“The Civil War was not about slavery.”
Ugh. That’s as much of an oversimplification as saying “the civil war was about slavery”.
so the great compromise was about heritage?
Okay, to be fair, it was and it wasn’t. And I know that that makes no damn sense to say, but the basic thing that the South saw themselves as fighting for was Southern institutions and culture. Yes, this culture was based upon slavery, but it extended outwards to the relation between males and females, the relation between the elites and non-elites in Southern society, the agrarian nature of Southern society (although widespread industrialization of the South only really became possible with the advent of air conditioning).
For the North, ideologically, the war was about slavery and was sold in those terms and any number of letters we have from Northern soldiers talk about how bad slavery is. Politically, however, it was resolving a fairly old dispute about the allocation of power between the federal and the state governments, which had triggered a number of crises in the 18th century, notably the Nullification Crises in South Carolina under Jackson.
“Did Pakistani officials help the North Korean nuclear program?”

Most gay men are too smart to get married.
Marriage equality was only really an issue for the dumb and/or ugly ones.
I say this as a gay marriage supporter.
Hmmm….sounds like there should be a law to make those numbers equal. It wouldn’t be fair otherwise.
Interesting. Kind of a Title IX for gay marriage, with quotas and everything.
I guess they would have to refuse to issue marriage licenses to straight people until the ratio of gay marriages got up to Proper Level.
Ha ha ha ha ha! Feel our pain, my homosexual brethren. Feel our pain!
Just go back to criminalizing sex outside marriage while allowing gay marriage. Problem solved.
Women are indoctrinated more than men in our society to get married. It’s the Fairy Princess syndrome. Not to be confused with the Jewish Princess Syndrome.
Funny. She doesn’t look Druish.

EPA Funds Green Groups That Sue The Agency To Expand
When the Environmental Protection Agency said in late June that it would force Western coal-fired power plants to install haze-reducing pollution-control equipment at a cost of $1.5 billion a year, it said it had to in order to settle a lawsuit by environmental groups.
One organization involved in the suit, the Environmental Defense Fund, has a long history of taking the EPA to court. In fact, a cursory review finds almost half a dozen cases in the past 10 years.
The odd thing is that the EPA, in turn, has handed EDF $2.76 million in grants over that same period, according to an IBD review of the agency’s grant database….
I’ve got to start my own Defense Fund. Maybe I could start suing the Dept of Commerce.
The Arizona GOP only exists to hate Mexicans. (Not the national GOP, John, so don’t freak out.) Therefore it goes without saying that a SWAT raid that killed someone of Hispanic origin would be an unadulterated good thing to the Arizona GOP regardless of the circumstances.
Balko is all surprised that this isn’t spelled out in the press release, but that’s because to the Arizona GOP this all goes without saying. They’re assuming that anyone reading the press release already knows this.
Quick poll:
Who is LESS likely to go to jail:
1. Any of the ATF agents or administrators involved in the gun running scandal
2. Any of the Atlanta teachers or administrators involved in the cheating scandal?
ATF agents – they’re Feds. The Atlanta teachers are local govt and are thus expendable.
Bzzzzztt!
The correct answer is “Trick question! Since none of either group will go to jail, they’re both EQUALLY unlikely to go to jail!”
However if you were a whistleblower and exposed either two groups your chance of losing your job is at least 75% and going to jail at least 50%
Dick!
More seriously, the ATF scandal appears to be stupidly stupid management, but not a criminal violation. Cops provide contaband in sting operations, that’s normal. usually, the contraband (counterfeit money, drugs, child porn, etc.) isn’t as dangerous as a gun going to a cartel, but it’s normal.
The GA teachers violated a state law about fraud. The principals are likely to catch a criminal charge, but maybe not jail time.
They helped people smuggle weapons into another country. Something tells me that’s a bit illegal, no matter who does it.
They helped people smuggle weapons into another country.
Which were used to commit murders. They knowingly facilitated murder in order to try to advance an anti-gun political agenda. Seems pretty illegal to me, too. (Accessory to murder?)
Its at the very least a violation of Mexican law.
Also, let’s not forget – let’s *not* forget, Dude – that keeping wildlife, an amphibious rodent, for uh, domestic, you know, within the city – that aint legal either.
And ITAR.
Just because the cops break the law all the time to ‘enforce’ it doesn’t mean they’re not breaking the law. I’ve read the federal firearms laws pretty closely and there’s nothing in there anywhere about ‘except when the ATF is running a sting’.
When you commit fraud in order to get money from the government (which the Atlanta teachers and administrators did), you have a good chance of catching a criminal indictment.
The ATF case is interesting; ordinarily, cops are allowed to violate laws in order to conduct stings (they shouldn’t be, but they are).
But here, you had a sting that couldn’t possibly work, because they had no ability to follow the guns into Mexico. And, they kept up with it even after they knew people were dying. And, they lied to the Mexican government about it.
That might take them out of their immunity.
But no one will be prosecuted. Bet on it.
But no one will be prosecuted. Bet on it.
You can say that again.
Someone will have to “take full responsibility”. That’s more than enough punishment.
I’ll just leave my answer blank so you can fill it in later.

I thought it was to enact some sort of party platform, the contents of such to be discussed and debated among its members. Silly me.
Wow. Now there’s a dude with a complete lack of principles. He’s found the perfect job for himself.
The really strange thing is that the Sheriff in Pima County is not only a Democrat but is the Democrat who accused the Republicans of hate speech which caused the shooting of the Congresswoman and the death of a Republican judge and others.

World to end in 2012: Feministing links to an interesting piece on state violence and… spanking. Eh, read it, better than it sounds.
I think it gets a bit high-horsey about spanking at times, but does acknowledge why parents would do it, given the world of drugs and such that kids can fall into. It’s not necessarily smart (I mean, feministing linked it) but it is an interesting attempt to weave a few threads together.

Honestly, these days I’d bet everybody gets a felony.
Let me guess.
The first one which resulted in no harm to anyone’s life, liberty or property should result in someone going to prison, while the second one in which someone is physically scarred for life should be handled discretely.

The Declaration of Independence was a clarion call for more and bigger government
…The very first item on their list condemned the king because he “refused his assent to laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.” Note that the signers wanted to pass laws, not repeal them, and they began by speaking of “the public good,” not about individuals or “the private sector.” They knew that it takes public action ? including effective and responsive government ? to secure “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”…
WTF?
I like how he skips over this part:
So according to this same document, it is my right and duty to tell the government to get bent when it gets too overbearing. I’m not sure that’s a precedent old EJ wants to endorse.
One of the interesting issues for libertarians is how far the principles set out in the Declaration go. An anarchist would say all the way to the individual, which means that I could simply opt out of a government I didn’t approve of. With, presumably, my property, so it’s not just a matter of leaving the country.
For minarchists, it’s a question of where the line should be drawn. Can a state secede? Would seem fairly clear that it should be able to under the Declaration. What about a municipality? Or a neighborhood? Even if we’re not talking about national secession, what about seceding from a county or state?
The Civil War squelched many of the principles set out in the Declaration, but the truth is that these ideas aren’t dead and are still a small part of our national character.
I occasionally have fun pointing out that riot and bloody revolution are enshrined in our foundational documents. You usually get some variety of “yes, but…” in response.
And you’re right. There’s not much serious discussion about opting-out, even as a theoretical issue. There should be more discussion.
There is a strong undercurrent of it in Texas, but I doubt it’ll ever amount to anything.
If the possibility of opt out were legally recognized, government might tread a little more lightly on our rights.
Texans may talk about secession from time to time, but I think, like every other state, the electorate are too firmly wedded to federal funding.
Politicians too, of course. That spigot of seemingly limitless largesse relieves them of most of the responsibility for raising taxes or cutting spending or any other unpalatable options.

agreements, there is no future along this path but endless
catastrophe, and so it’s time to explore the road not taken.
* Sovereignty: Establish a Sovereign Palestinian State, a [2] two-
state solution in which an independent Palestinian state would
exist alongside Israel, with each side — the Israelis and
Palestinians ? meeting their international obligations to their
neighbors the Palestinian Authority, building up its civic
institutions, economy and security, a sovereign, self- governing
member of the Islamic Crescent Sphere of Influence .
* Water Rights:
[NOT JUST ANOTHER BLUE PRINT]
The Empire to Date has failed to follow through on what it says
[70% to 80% ] seventy to eighty percent of the time concerning
the Israeli/ Palestinian Conflict, in fact it has said one thing while
doing the complete opposite in its inter-national relationships,
serving as an Israeli enabler going along with what Israel wants to
do at any given time and reinforces, Israeli self-destructive and
shortsighted impulses of it feels good to Israel they can just go
ahead and do it. Israeli is part of the Empire a quasi- State of the
Empire. The question is, can the Empire continue its war of
Economic Stimulus with Islam for decades and generations to
come, all reports and evidence suggest otherwise, with Spring
[2011 to 2012] , seen as one of rapid decline and support for its
continuance. Israel and its policies have become the Empires,
greatest liability in the Islamic Sphere of Influence, the Empire
will continue to support the existence of the State of Israel, one
that is in compliance with the [UN ] United Nations Mandate, The
Empire, must and will therefore issue a NEW BLUEPRINT, an
official declaration that Middle East Peace Talks will Embraces a
peace plan, even if indirect proximity talks between all the
regional players, beginning with a Step-by -Step initiative of
Bridging Peace Proposals based upon Past areas of specifically
addressed agreement’s of already agreed upon points of past
Mideast Peace Proposals, coaxing additional concessions from
Israel dealing with the conflict’s core issues, Israelis must
acknowledge that just as Israel’s right to exist cannot be denied,
neither can Palestine’s, and both the Israeli and Palestinian
people will have to learned to live with it, both Israeli Jew’s and
Palestinians know that peace in the Middle East is absolutely
essential too both the re- election of the Media Messiah Imperial
President of the Israel American Empire, and to the Community of
Nations both in the short and long term. The time of long-term
intermediate agreements, has passed the time of facing and
dealing with the tough issues has come, a comprehensive peace
agreement will happen but This New Plan will be implemented
and signed with first stages in place [NLT] Not Later Than [May
2012] a period of [6] Six months prior the [2 nd] Second term
election of [Nov 2012] ,of the Empires Messiah, either thru
diplomatic method or under International Mandate backed by
military intervention a comprehensive solution will be reached, it
has a Drop Dead Date, this is not an open ended when ever
accomplishment Blueprint, there has been to much overrun on its
completion, THIS IS NOT JUST ANOTHER BLUEPRINT.
HERCULE TRIATHLON SAVINIEN
another strike against the oppressor!
its the 67 borders WITH ADJUSTMENTS which was the basis for previous negoiations.
Cool story, bro. Hey, Loughner, how’d you get the guards to let you use the computer at the state hospital?
“In Arizona, the Pima County GOP wants to purge its chairman, a Ron Paul Republican who spoke out against a deadly SWAT raid.”
I wonder if the establishment will try to purge the presidential nominee if it turns out Paul wins.
Now there’s a thought….
Lighter skin gives you shorter prison sentences.
I think that they are ignoring the very simple fact that, obviously, octaroons are simply less prone to crime.
Health Insurance may not make you healthier, or it may…shit, we have no idea, according to Slate.
Fucking moral hazards, how do they work?
My wife is so pale, she could probably commit murder and get an commendation from the mayor.
Mine’s practically an albino, so I’ll have to convince her to do the dirty work. Or at least cop to it.
Fucking moral hazards, how do they work?
Fucking internet clich?s, how do they work?
Fail.
Yeah, Fail Troll is Fail.
But remember: Troll hard. Troll fail. Troll better.
Or — Fucking trolling, how does it work?
So will the U of Michigan institute a sliding scale of racial bonus points based on exact shade of skin color?
“That is our human color wheel. It goes from Seal to Seal’s teeth.”
“We’re trying to avoid stereotypical features… Irish Chins…”
Had to look up “human color wheel.” Shoulda guessed it would be “Community.”
I have seen this only one other time. It’s the ultimate tan! He’s Sun Bleached!
This is why I commit most of my crimes in the winter, when due to lack of sun, my skin slants toward olive; as opposed to summer when it tans to a light toasted brown.
In Arizona, the Pima County GOP wants to purge its chairman, a Ron Paul Republican who spoke out against a deadly SWAT raid.
Damn, Radley getting in a long range nut punch.
ATF implicates FBI in Mexico gun-trafficking probe
I guess the thin blue line does not apply between agencies.
You know they’re in trouble when they start pointing fingers at each other.
I thought Sen. Byrd was dead.
Heh-heh. “Some.”
‘Fast & Furious’ gets hotter for Holder
TSA will be requiring suspects customers to pull any stitches and/or verify anuses are unstretched.
I’m sorry boss, I can’t make the business trip. My anus is too stretched.
Show us your scars.
“The rectal exams are simply following proper procedure to keep us all safe.”
This really does have to be the stupidest alert ever issued by the TSA.
waterboarding & sodomy will eliminate this problem…plus many others
plus im really looking forward to the sodomy
with donkey dicks
or a giant dildo on a pneumatic jackhammer, either one
In other news, the TSA has budgeted $15 million to install gynecologist chairs in all major airports.
IT’S A SNUKE!!!11!!1!
IN makes two rulings opening the door for police raids
This is a couple of months old, but dont remember seeing it.
Fuck you, hoosiers.
“We also find that allowing resistance unnecessarily escalates the level of violence and therefore the risk of injuries to all parties involved without preventing the arrest.”
Roughly translated “The State reserves the right to any and all violence for itself and only itself. Any attempt to impede the State’s actions in this regard will be met with overwhelming and unrepentant force.”
On Tuesday, the court said police serving a warrant may enter a home without knocking if officers decide circumstances justify it. Prior to that ruling, police serving a warrant would have to obtain a judge’s permission to enter without knocking.
Cops can no knock at will and you cant resist an illegal raid. Not seeing how anything can go wrong with that combo.
Rule #1: The cops are always right.
Rule #2: When the cops are wrong, refer to Rule #1.
I thought there was only one, very simple rule:
STOP RESISTING!!!!!
Charlie Sheen to MC at The Gathering of The Juggalos
That seems appropriate.
I wonder if this fat kid I knew in high school is still a Juggalo, or if he’s dead by now. I wonder which his mom would prefer.
I’ve never known an “out” Juggalo. Probably because I would mock them to death.
I stopped having much to do with him right about the time he almost killed me with his terrible driving skills.
The makeup dripped down into his eyes?
As I remember it, he thought it was a great idea to over-correct while sliding on a gravel road. Perhaps he had sniffed too much glue.
I don’t even believe they are real. CNN just made them up for 15 minutes of free fluff every few months, right?
Richard Dawkins gets into a comments war with feminists.
How dare he suggest that the plight of women is worse in the Muslim world! Although, when it comes to matters of religion, Dawkins is kind of a dick.
This is news? Obama loses cool as campaign heats up.
Wait, Obama is sort of thin skinned? WHAT?????
Seriously, the dude comes off politically as, well, kind of a dick.
Can they both lose?
I’ll be using that line all day.
Yes, this is from Kos, so you may be stupider from reading it, but: Ben Nelson opposes tax increases for deficit reduction.
Hell, even when I agree with him, I kinda hate Ben Nelson.
Economist commentators, don’t ever change.
Summary: An economist writer talks about how women may be better in politics, per Kristen Gilldebrand, because they care less for taking credit, are more conciliatory, Economist comments slap it down.
Women maintain their status heirarchies in a different fashion from men. Don’t presume that in a competitive environment women would be any more conciliatory than men, it would just be less obviously cutthroat.
The *Economist* is a British publication – they ought to have tried to fit Margaret Thatcher into their discussion. Her selling point, of course, was that she was *less* conciliatory than he male colleagues in the Conservative Party. She is associated with phrases like “there is no alternative” and “don’t get wobbly.”
Is Thatcher a bizarre exception to the women-are-conciliators rule?
No. Anybody who thinks women are conciliators have never spent much time around them. Here’s a classic phrase I’m sure some of you have heard: if momma ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy.
That didn’t get to be prevalent by women being conciliatory.
She: “If women ran the world, there’d be no war.”
He: ” If women ran the world there’d be a new war every 28 days.”
she: sleep on the couch
he: like rick james, im not taking my shoes off!
Women are “conciliators” to the degree necessary to position themselves for a knife in your back.
From Wapo: Business leaders aren’t pushing enough to raise debt ceiling.
Damn CORPORATIONZ!!!
ok if the WSJ had written it
Come here, OO! Time to change your diaper!
quit thinkin about used diapers
mmmmmmmmmm….diapers….
Every serious observer knows that we need to increase our country’s debt ceiling
A few weeks ago I was hoping the R’s “got something good” in exchange for raising the debt ceiling. The more I read the more I hope they use it as an automatic budget balancer. I’m guessing Obama will get complete discretionary power (up to the limit already budgeted) to spend what does come in, but he’ll have to fund the existing debt and the wars first, and I don’t care how he wastes the rest of the money that much anyways. So the only way they’d get to spend more on a certain program next year is to acually retire some debt this year. What a nice dream.
From the “stimulus money” link:
Does anybody here remember when libertarians and fiscal conservatives were being pilloried for 1) Saying that 1) Money would be wasted and 2) Insisting that proper controls be put in place while 3) Bernake was saying “just trust us”?
“They were going after someone they could never have,” a source in Washington told Fox News. “The Mr. Big they wanted was using government money to buy guns that went to the cartels. The FBI knew it and didn’t tell them.”
The confidential informant is a former high-level drug dealer who had been deported by the DEA. The FBI, however, recruited him as a counter-terrorism informant, providing information on potential dirty bombs or Al Qaeda suspects moving through the border region.
The FBI informant was picked up on a DEA wiretap, and forwarded to the ATF.
Jesus, it’s the Axis of Malicious Incompetence.
Okay, Tony, we’ve probably hashed this out before, but:
Should states have the right to set their own marriage policy?
Should states have the right to set their own drug policy?
Should states have ANY rights?
Coward.
