Reason.tv: What Teachers Need Most - Q&A with Rhode Island Education Commissioner Deborah Gist
Rhode Island Education Commissioner Deborah Gist has drawn national attention for her fight to make teachers better. She created a new statewide teacher evaluation system, she raised Rhode Island's standards for acceptance into teacher-preparation programs, and she fired all the teachers at at a failing high school near Providence when they resisted reform. These efforts landed her on Time's 100 most influential people list in 2010.
Reason.tv sat down with Gist at the National Summit on Education Reform in Washington, D.C. to talk about what teachers are most lacking.
This interview is part of National School Choice Week, a non-partisan initiative to raise awareness of how competition and choice can transform K-12 education.
Approximately 1.30 minutes. Filmed by Jim Epstein and Meredith Bragg, and edited by Epstein. Interview by Nick Gillespie.

Were they immediately rehired into the district as high-paid consultants while still drawing their pensions from the jobs they were fired from?
She's from Rhode Island, not New York or CA.

Oh, and if you think this will protect you from [religious extremists] or other legal recriminations, you're wrong.
Y'all should probably adopt some terms of use that you include with your links in the footer (like your privacy policy). In there, you can lay claim to everything, require indemnities, include DMCA notification language, and reserve the right to mangle, remove, and destroy comments. And ban anyone you want. All as a condition of using the site.
And ban anyone you want.
Rectal?
[crosses fingers]
I meant the powers that be, but sure, they could ban anyone with well-crafted terms of use.
It was probably Rectal that got this policy put up there in the first place. She's really taking the loss of her dad hard. I mean not as hard as she took it when he was still alive, but difficult nonetheless.

Fuck you?
Boy that was really funny! Idiot!
Uncivil, off-topic. Remove.
Both of you.
You're a towel!
Hey fucktard... Maybe you missed it but a Congresswoman got shot a couple weeks ago (I think some other people may have been killed, but I'm not sure because they're not as important as a Congresswoman) so we're all supposed to tone down our rhetoric now. May the mark of Palin be upon you should somebody else get shot in the next 24 hours.
Fuck you harder?
I am so righteously indignant I'm tempted to engage my caps lock.
I re-read the Hit & Run policy above, and there's nothing about using your caps lock.

Now, now.
Then, then.
We want a Rebecca Huffman interview.
Good for her. Did she get threats or serious consequences from the unions for chopping so many?
Does Reason purposely try to set the YouTube video for maximum amount of parody? Not that it matters now since anything can and will be used against us in a court of Reason?.
It doesn't matter. None of it matters. No amount of reform will accomplish anything. The only path to improvement for america's unfortunate children trapped in public schools is to eliminate public schools entirely and let every parent own the decisions for their child's eduction. Period.
That thing right up there ^^
