You Can't Say That Here
In Finland, a court has found Helsinki City Council member Jussi Halla-aho guilty of insulting Islam and fined him 330 euros. Halla-aho had noted on his blog that Mohammad, the founder of Islam, married an underage girl. Halla-aho said he believed that made Mohammad a pedophile and Islam a religion that sanctifies pedophilia.

from the story: "In the view of the court Halla-aho's arguments were not sincere, even though they appeared logical. The court also stated that logic has no significance when religious questions are involved."
Indeed, sirs... indeed!
The Obama Administration's recent moves in the UN human rights commission will make it easier for governments to commit this sort of rights abrogation in the future.
By coming down on the side of organized religions over individual expression, Team Obama has essentially undercut the protections put in place by several previous administrations who would not deal with the UN human rights apparatus unless the freedom of expression described in the 1st Amendment were preserved.
Team Obama instead bunked with that bastion of free expression known as Egypt to craft a document that subordinates individual expression to that of the cults.
So telling the truth = insulting someone?
You're pretty tactless, y'know.
Just seeing if I can comment still, since H&R is not working for me ever since the survey went up. Now I get kicked out of the page as soon as it comes up.
Same here.
Yeah, how dare anyone tell the truth about Mohammed's predeliction for underage girls...
I have it on good authority that Mohammed (pbuhswtomgwtfbbq) also diddled little boys, so Jussi is getting what he deserves.
Maybe Mohammed (mhsabih) wasn't morally culpable--he was psychotic. But I guess that makes Islam a religion that glorifies psychosis.
Ok, he thought of that before I did, but did he ever think of making people hold onto a galvanometer and fork over half a million bucks each for a script I couldn't sell in Hollywood?
Yo Elron, I'm really happy for you and I'ma let you finish, but Joseph Smith had one of the greatest religious swindles of all time. OF ALL TIME!
Is Finland the worst country in the world? In the last paragraph, it states that, although he was found 'not guilty' of another charge, "(t)he prosecution in the case is also considering lodging an appeal." He was found 'not guilty' and they want to try him again. For writing what the court identified as 'satire'. Unreal.
Too beacoup!!
"Underage" is a legal concept. What was the definition for "underage" in the time of Mohammad?
In American pioneer times, many an underage girl was married off to a suitor.
If I remember correctly, I believe this girl was six, but that He didn't consummate the marriage until she was seven. Can't remember where I heard that, though. Anyone?
I think he put the shaft to her when she turned nine. An old lady, really.
He is the Prophet. He is not bound by the same moral prescriptions as the rest of us.
So Mohammed had an 'underage' wife.
And Plato had an 'underage' boy.
And America was founded on the greatest act of genocide in the history of the world.
So lets not judge the past by the standards of the present, hey chaps?
If you are trying to get someone here to defend genocide you should probably save your breath.
PUuuhleese...at least 60 and maybe 100 million Russians murdered by Stalin, even more Chinese by Mao, and that's just in recent history, no one knows how many were killed by the "Golden Horde" when the Mongols enslaved Russia for 300 years, or how many were murdered in the 200 years of Jihad that took place before the Crusades...just to name a few of mankind's more memorable moments.
Just try to have a scintilla of perspective
