  1. Mister DNA   16 years ago

In a perfect world, this Henry Payne would get a Pulitzer for this cartoon.

    1. Mister DNA   16 years ago

There's a superfluous this in that sentence.

    2. That Chick from OH   16 years ago

Unfortunately, in our imperfect world, Obama got the Nobel Peace Prize - apparently just for NOT being George Dubya Bush. Or just for being fabulous. Or something. Who knows??

      1. smartass sob   16 years ago

I thought a sitting President was not allowed by law to accept gifts and prizes. I suppose he can always donate it to ACORN. Seems like the Peace Prize committee is all about funding their favorite leftists the last several years.

      2. Mister DNA   16 years ago

Obama's Peace Prize was the impetus for my comment (although it would have worked better had Chip Bok drawn the cartoon).

Those of you who are gambling types might want to start placing your money on Pauly Shore winning the Irving Thalberg Lifetime Achievement Award at the next Oscars...

      3. Untermensch   16 years ago

The committee's statement is pretty telling: They don't cite anything he's actually done other than starting some initiatives that have yet to accomplish anything. They say they gave it to him to "encourage" him, the same reason they gave it to Gorbachev in 1990. I hope in this case he might actually come to deserve it, but if they award the Prize for talking a good game (rather than doing)?

  2. Kyle Jordan   16 years ago

    This one's funny.

    And racist.

  3. @   16 years ago

    Chicago is an orange snail?
Anyway, the Peace Prize is an ironic consolation.

  4. SugarFree   16 years ago

Payne should get a Nobel as well. It's pretty much a worthless recognition at this point as well.

10 months in office, no foreign policy crisis at all, no significant treaties. Ridiculous.

This is worse than that bullshit global warming Nobel for Gore.

    1. @   16 years ago

Gore's Prize made the scam official.
      Obama's reinforces its worthlessness.

      1. SugarFree   16 years ago

Frankly, it's been a bit suspect since they gave it to that racist shitbag Woodrow Wilson for creating the United Nations Beta.

      2. brotherben   16 years ago

I gotta nominate this comment by @ for the nobel in literature.

        and the thread winner.

  5. Mister DNA   16 years ago

Why is Obama getting a free throw, anyway? Was he fouled by Brazil?

    1. @   16 years ago

A free throw in an empty arena. That pretty much sums up his achievements thus far.

      1. brotherben   16 years ago

        this one dammit

    2. JW   16 years ago

No, no. That's the court in Heaven. He's on God's Team.

  6. hmm   16 years ago

President, savior, god, and NBA basketball player.

  7. Xeones   16 years ago

Why's he gotta be playing basketball? Because he's black? RAAAAACIST

    1. Ska   16 years ago

Why's he gotta be playing [any sport other than hockey or bowling]? Because he's black?! RAAAAACIST.

      1. Brett   16 years ago

Yeah how racists. They accuse Obama of playing basketball after he tore up the white house tennis court to put up a basketball court.

What's next jokes about Michelle planting a watermellon patch? oh Wait!

  8. P Brooks   16 years ago

Depicting the City of Chicago as a giant steaming pile of shit with flies circling it is probably racist.

  9. Warren   16 years ago

    A winner from Payne

    LOL funny
    Spot on, though growing old

Obama is on the olympic team?

  11. Eric the .5b   16 years ago

This may be the single lamest cartoon linked for Friday Funnies yet.

  12. Von Diglio   16 years ago

What is the sequence of events? Did he take the shot and the ball deflated by hitting the rim, or ground? Did he shoot a deflated ball? My suggestion: a multi panel, in first, he gears up for shot, but there is crafy Brazilian futbol player lurking in the shadows behind the net (the shadows represent the dark dense jungles of Brazil, and overall strangeness of South America), then as he is about to shoot, BLAMMO! a soccer ball nails him in the crotch. The basketball can still read Chicago, the soccer ball will either read IOC or Brazil, and the Brazilian man will read Brazil. Or even better, two frames, first, Obama just letting the ball go during the free throw...next panel, REJECTED! by the giant JC statue. Payne, feel free to take my suggestions and post some Saturday sillies or something like that.

My only point is that if you take the Bible straight, as I'm sure many of Reasons readers do, you will see a lot of the Old Testament stuff as absolutely insane. Even some cursory knowledge of Hebrew and doing some mathematics and logic will tell you that you really won't get the full deal by just doing regular skill english reading for those books. In other words, there's more to the books of the Bible than most will ever grasp. I'm not concerned that Mr. Crumb will go to hell or anything crazy like that! It's just that he, like many types of religionists, seems to take it literally, take it straight...the Bible's books were not written by straight laced divinity students in 3 piece suits who white wash religious beliefs as if God made them with clothes on...the Bible's books were written by people with very different mindsets
