I watched yesterday, and I knew it was going to be a waste of time - O'Reilly is a war monger, period.

Today, I am listening to Mike Levin rant about what conservatism is all about, but happened to mention that the conservative movement has to fight against the "Ron Paul types, the Pat Buchanan types".... Same sentiment that comes from people like O'Reilly and Hannity. These guys play lip service to true conservative values while being actually nothing more than hard core statists, just as bad as the Obamanable.

BTW, Doherty was spot on, and Kucinich is more of a Constitutionalist than O'Reilly, and that's saying a lot.

I liked the debate in this video. I'm more of the opinion like George Will in focusing on decapitating strikes against al Qaeda and the Taliban. Nation building is not prudent and will not work.

However, wanted to comment that Levin is right that Pat Buchanan (anti-immigrant, anti-capitalist, religious right thug, isolationist) should not be considered Conservative and also that Ron Paul's theory of "American imperialism" is the same bullshit that comes from the left wing. I don't think Paul should be read out of the conservative moment but I believe his foreign policy is shit. It's based on the false platonic conception of rights, not objective rights as applied in Objectivism.

At the risk of being mistaken for a prig or a fuddy-duddy, I do hope that Reason's Brian Doherty did not purposely mangle General McChrystal's name as "McChrysler" at the end of the clip. I'm afraid that many in that huge O'Reilly audience who noticed it would be offended on the general's behalf and likely think Reasonoids gratuitously rude and less than appropriately serious. I very much want to see more libertarians invited, and invited back, to all venues so that they might shape public opinion and public policy for the better.

Well, that was 5 minutes of my life I'll never get back. Is it even possible to have any sort of substantive discussion on Afghanistan in 5 minutes? Especially with O'Reilly bloviating for probably 4 minutes of it? Perfect example of why most TV commentatary programs add little value to political debate.
