It's funny cuz it's true.
True? Probably. Funny? Heck, no! RUFKM? This is the Friday Funnies! Why blow a perfect record?
More comments, please! They're the entertainment I count on each week!
That is really not funny at all. It's just lame.
I am with Some Chick on this one.
I am offended by this gratuitous attack on my religion: Obamaism.
I pray to Obama. I pray that Dear Leader will keep the world ice cold and that he will put a Chevy in every pot. I smoke (although I call it 'Love Sucking')because my Lord and Saviour demands it and it makes me feel closer to Him.
Prayer changes things.
How you doin?
Is Obama colored in that cartoon? Racist!
The two tobacco lobbyists (or whoever they may be) appear to be trudging through heaps of bullshit piled nearly to the windowsills.
I nearly died laughing.
I actually think the color is the one clever element here. You have the grim and dour puritans of prohibition drawn in black and white and the real person (I still give Obama the benefit of the doubt on that one) in color, showing the contrast between the prohibitionist schemes and ideas and the reality of their targets. Since I picked up on that fairly quickly, I'm hoping that Henry Payne intended it and didn't merely stumble upon it.
In some ways I think this is one of the more clever Friday Funnies in a while. Is it funny? Not really. But it is mildly amusing and thought-provoking with the idea of prohibition peddlers who think that the president of the U.S. smokes because of ads an needs to be coddled like a school child. It gets pretty close to their mindset that sees the public as mindless drones at the mercies of devious advertisements (themselves excepted, of course). In that respect, it might annoy someone who sees prohibitionists as just in it For The Children? and, if they ask why they are annoyed, it might make them think (heaven forfend!) about it.
So this one I give passing marks to. It's at least amusing (and thus passes the Marmaduke and Cathy tests) and has some substance outside the amusement factor.
In the absense of a Morning Links thread, I'll note that it's now official:
At their heart, all the bills would require insurance companies to sell coverage to any applicant, without charging higher premiums for pre-existing medical conditions.
From each, according to his ability, to each, according to his needs.
The government would provide subsidies for the poor and many middle-class families, but those who still refuse to sign up would face fines of more than $1,000.
And here I was gonna celebrate Independence Day tomorrow, the Fourth of July. I don't think there's a goddamned thing to celebrate anymore. What a bunch of miserable, bloodsucking bastards we have in DC. Damn them!
That's not funny, THIS is funny.
Wow, that makes pretty good sense to me dude!

Tricky, check your linky.
The personal habits of Prohibitionists are irrelevant to the ethical and practitcal failures of Prohibition.
I'm humorless as a radical feminist today.
...but those who still refuse to sign up would face fines of more than $1,000.
I thought Obama Bin Lyin wasn't gonna raise taxes on the middle and lower classes? Sure reads like a tax to me.
Hmm. Here's my alternative.
Any comment on the Lori Drew verdict getting set aside?
Terrible. Friday Funnies are a special kind of hell, for which I either applaud or curse reason for inflicting them upon us. It's sort of an acquired taste. But at least there hasn't been any Bok recently.
Why has there not been a Michael Jackson post yet today?
I'm dead.
"Any comment on the Lori Drew verdict getting set aside?"
She's a worthless piece of dog shit.
'[Lori Drew is] a worthless piece of dog shit.'
One might say the same about Ernesto Miranda, who took a young woman off the street, drove her into the desert, and raped her. Does this mean the police should not have warned Miranda of his legal rights? Similarly, does Drew's badness mean that it's OK to twist the law in any way considered necessary in order to "get" her?
Maybe it's just me, but I can't see the humor in the cartoon. I'm sure everyone else thinks this is the most hilarious thing they've ever seen, but I'm just yawning.
Hey Popeye!
"Any comment on the Lori Drew verdict getting set aside?"
She's a worthless piece of dog shit.
Wait, I like FOX and I thought you were talking of Lori Dew. Sorry, never mind.
"Similarly, does Drew's badness mean that it's OK to twist the law in any way considered necessary in order to "get" her?"
I wasn't addressing the law. I care not what "happens" to her. Just a simple observation.
Like the sound of a dream.

My only point is that if you take the Bible straight, as I'm sure many of Reasons readers do, you will see a lot of the Old Testament stuff as absolutely insane. Even some cursory knowledge of Hebrew and doing some mathematics and logic will tell you that you really won't get the full deal by just doing regular skill english reading for those books. In other words, there's more to the books of the Bible than most will ever grasp. I'm not concerned that Mr. Crumb will go to hell or anything crazy like that! It's just that he, like many types of religionists, seems to take it literally, take it straight...the Bible's books were not written by straight laced divinity students in 3 piece suits who white wash religious beliefs as if God made them with clothes on...the Bible's books were written by people with very different mindsets...
is good
