    Or an abattoir.

  2. flix   16 years ago

so..... Mises.org posts a new South Park episode clip before Reason?

you guys really dropped the ball there.

  3. sven   16 years ago

I can't tell: is this racist or sexist?

  4. Chip Bok   16 years ago

Editorial cartoonists like myself need a government bailout.

We can't compete with our foreign counterparts. My work speaks for itself, unfortunately! :-p

  5. ed   16 years ago

Obama looks a little Nixonian there.

  6. roy   16 years ago

    Sven,
Sexist of course! Not racist if there are no monkeys in it...
    oh wait....

  7. Concerned Citizen   16 years ago

for crying out loud, obama. is. not. muslim!

if this is libertarianism, count me out.

  8. Untermensch   16 years ago

for crying out loud, obama. is. not. muslim!

Oh course not, because then including the pig in the image would be Islamophobic and the HRCs in Canada would ban Reason in Canada...

Come to think of it, if we put a turban on Obama and added a monkey to this we could make the HRCs explode in pure, stuttering RAGE.

  9. Anonymous   16 years ago

Concerned Citizen, I'm honestly interested in what thought process brought you to your comment.

    It could only be hilarious.

  10. Untermensch   16 years ago

Ooh, ooh, and the fact that he's using his left hand on the pig must be a coded anti-Muslin message.

  11. Untermensch   16 years ago

(Before anyone corrects me, I know it should really be Mooselman.)

  12. TofuSushi   16 years ago

I can't tell: is this racist or sexist?

Both. Are you new to Amerikkka?

  13. domoarrigato   16 years ago

What the hell, are they banning insulting comments this morning? This sucks!

  14. TofuSushi   16 years ago

    domo,

    Who got banned?

  15. test   16 years ago

    fuck, damm, screw...

insults seem to be working fine

  16. domoarrigato   16 years ago

Normally the thread would already be think with insulting comments about how the friday funnies aren't. Since this one blows as much as all the others, I conjecture the reason such comments aren't present is the banhammer.

  17. Reinmoose   16 years ago

That is a horrible likeness of Obama, but I don't see how it's implying he's a Muslim...

Also, this might be the worst cartoon on Friday Funnies in weeks! Congratulations Reason team.

  18. Episiarch   16 years ago

Bok's cartoons are insulting, but only to the intelligent.

  19. domoarrigato   16 years ago

    there you go...

  20. anarch   16 years ago

Normally the thread would already be think

    Drink!

  21. P Brooks   16 years ago

Believe it or not, I rate this one as better than average.

    Much better than average.

Sorry, Bok; no bailout for you.

  22. Reinmoose   16 years ago

I don't get it, actually. What's with the "keep out" sign? The comment "maybe lipstick would help" doesn't make sense. Help what? Dress up the pig (iow - stimulus bill), right? But who's suggesting it needs dressing up? Obama's not even paying attention to him but has this vacant look in his eyes and DOES look a lot like Nixon (in cartoons).

    Seriously, wtf?

  23. Episiarch   16 years ago

Don't think, moose. It just makes it worse.

  24. SugarFree   16 years ago

That is a horrible likeness of Obama, but I don't see how it's implying he's a Muslim...

I believe the look of glowering distaste is supposed to be directed at having to touch a pig rather than at the snarky question being asked by the white guy.

When someone (not you, of course) doesn't have a sense of humor (like many on the left and the right,) it's easy to misread the clues, verbal or visual, that are supposed to guide you to a humorous conclusion from a statement or scene. This the basis for most kerfuffles over cartoons all over the world.

Not that this cartoon is humorous, but it's plainly not about want to eschew the pig.

  25. Abbie Hoffman qua libertarian   16 years ago

    Eschew the pig!

  26. Episiarch   16 years ago

Chew the pig? I just had some ham. Maybe I could Twitter all of you about it.

  27. SugarFree   16 years ago

It would make a pretty good handle for someone...

I wish I could actually see typos in preview. I just gloss right over them. Fuck.

  28. Art-P.O.G.   16 years ago

Hmmm...not bad, IMHO. Chip Bok shows up the dude who does Marmaduke and possible Cathy Guisewhite (in one smooth motion).

  29. Reinmoose   16 years ago

I wish I could actually see typos in preview. I just gloss right over them. Fuck.

I don' t evan use pReview unlessI use complicated tags

  30. jtuf   16 years ago

Reinmoose, presidents normally have a ceremony with press present when they sign a bill. Obama signed the recent, pork filled spending bill without the usual fanfare. So the president who campaigned with open government on his platform is trying to minimize the attention given to this bill. Rather than changing his spending habits, he's just trying to change the perception of his spending habits. He's forgotten that a pig is still a pig, even with lipstick on it.

  31. SugarFree   16 years ago

    Rienmose,

    itry'll tht for awhale.

Also, did anyone else notice that the pen nib is hovering over the "c" rather than the "k"? Is he writing over his first signature backwards? Writing from right to left?

    OMG! SECRET MUSLIM!

  32. Episiarch   16 years ago

I don' t evan use pReview unlessI use complicated tags

    We know.

    (ducks)

  33. Reinmoose   16 years ago

    jtuf -
Oh right! Because when the president signs it, that's when everyone finds out what it is!
I don't buy that. Like anybody gets any real insight from watching him sign it, especially when there was such a big public hullabaloo (sp?) when it was being discussed.

  34. Warren   16 years ago

It's still better than a Chapman column.

  35. SugarFree   16 years ago

    Hullabaloo

A baloo is a bear. A hull is a part of a ship. A hullabaloo is a ship made out of a bear.

  36. robc   16 years ago

    domo,

While not exactly chuckle inducing, I thought this one was okay.

  37. robc   16 years ago

    A baloo is a bear.

Arggggggggg! Damn you standardized test sample questions!

  38. Xeones   16 years ago

Obama looks pissed, but i'd be pissed too if i was in a cartoon called "Friday Funnies" and it wasn't.

  39. Stephen Colbert   16 years ago

I believe all God's creatures have a soul - except bears, Bears are actually Satan's children

  40. P Brooks   16 years ago

    "Hullabaloo"?

Girls in miniskirts and go-go boots!

    *whistles, waggles eyebrows*

  41. SugarFree   16 years ago

Junk is sculch. Junk is sculch.

Therefore, a woman's pubic region should henceforth be called "sculch" in situations where a clumsy qualification like "chick junk" might be normally employed.

Sculch also has the advantage of being onomatopoeic for certain sounds the region makes.

  42. domoarrigato   16 years ago

I'm convinced Chip Bok's efforts are being subsidized with TARP money. How else could the outcome be so consistently opposite of what was intended?

  43. Art-P.O.G.   16 years ago

    hear, hear!

: D I have to give Bok credit for reading these comment threads, though.

  44. EJM   16 years ago

Why is the background so dark? Are they supposed to be drowning in ink, or something?

  45. SugarFree   16 years ago

Why is the background so dark?

The lights are off to conserve electricity.

  46. Reinmoose   16 years ago

The lights are off to conserve electricity.

Don't be a wingnut. The progressives don't really want us to go back to the dark ages like that. They have the lights on - they're just CFLs and have only been on a few minutes so far.

  47. SugarFree   16 years ago

    "Oooh, they hum like angels!"

  48. Episiarch   16 years ago

    "Oooh, they hum like angels!"

That's just the ethereal glow of phosphor in the CFLs that makes them look like angels.

  49. Chris Matthews   16 years ago

"Maybe I could Twitter all of you about it."

Thank you! Twitter! I LOVE it!

  50. SugarFree   16 years ago

Twitter is the result of egotism running up against shitty phone keyboards. Remove either and it would cease to exist.

  51. P Brooks   16 years ago

Are they supposed to be drowning in ink, or something?

Well, if that's the case, it's the wrong color.

  54. rock the vote   16 years ago

Dudes and Dudettes, Don't you see? The comic itself is not the friday funny, the comment thread is. Chip Bok knows this. This comic should have taken place at the special olympics, and it should be Jay Leno telling Obama about the pig. Then in the bottom, you know how comics sometimes have like a little guy in a bush saying something? It should be Palin, Sarah, saying something like "well I never...!" and a priest/minister person could be saying to her "Gov. Palin, when is the wedding?" and a state trooper will be behind him like there is no wedding, and if you want to get arrested then just keep talking about the wedding, and basically what would be happening is that Bok would just be throwing in like everything from the news and current events and hope that maybe even just one of those things will make you laugh.

  55. daveednyc   16 years ago

How many libertarian grad school students does it take to dissect a cartoon? Sheesh.

    Made me laugh.

  56. Joel   16 years ago

I thought it was funnier than usual.

I didn't laugh. But I didn't sneer, either, and that's high praise for Friday Funnies. The feature doesn't exactly make me leap out of bed and sprint to the 'pooter.

  57. Team America   16 years ago

    Funniest FF, evar!

Rush Limbough getting prepped for anal sex with a Chimpanzee, while getting sex tips from a bulimic Michael Moore?

  65. L. Ron Hoover   16 years ago

Much better than the usual Bok effort. Tying together "pork" spending with the "lipstick on a pig" kerfuffle - not bad.

Of course it is also racist, homophobic, sexist, xenophobic and anti-Islam.

  66. sven   16 years ago

Actually, he looks a little like Adrian Monk there. You can even see that he's going back over the 'c' in Barack to get it juuuust right.

The pig looks too much like a certain Kennedy.

  67. dynasty buster   16 years ago

Has there ever been a Kennedy who wasn't certain?
