Now On a New Day…

As of this week, my weekly radio show will air on Tuesdays rather than Thursdays. It'll occupy the same hours as before—12 to 3, eastern time—and follow the same free format I described in my initial post about the program:

With a motto borrowed from a long-dead California freeform station—"it's all country music, it just depends on what country you come from"—I'll be playing a mix of soul, punk, ska, funk, gospel, country, klezmer, jazz, and random snippets of the Zeitgeist….There will be no political commentary, except when I can't help myself. If you live in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area, you can tune in at 88.3 FM; if you live elsewhere, you'll have to listen online.

No. No, you won't. Not playing that mix, you won't. You seem to be digging for the absolute bottom of the cultural barrel, and doing an exceedingly fine job of it.

I'm listening now and the show sounds great. thanks for the tip....I listen to freeform WFMU most of the time and believe its station manager (Ken Freedman) also managed BCN awhile back.

I rather like the idea of providing H&R with a soundtrack, if only for three hours a week (and even if it isn't technically associated with reason.)

Ever consider adding an audio stream of your own to this site, Jesse? It wouldn't cost much if you limited the tracks to royalty-free indies. Get an intern to sort the wheat from the chaff. Give the residents and trolls something else to argue about. Just a thought.

Or you could just limit the tracks to public domain songs. Can't wait to hear The Battlehymn of the Republic followed up by Camptown Races!

Yep, public-domain works as well. Lots of worthy stuff available. I can't think of any other site-of-ideas that offers a streaming soundtrack. I've been listening to (and enjoying) Jesse's show, and it adds to the experience. The beer and cigar helps.

As for Ben1's musical taste, if you follow the link to his site you can hear the sort of stuff he prefers.

I'd vote to second Warty's suggestion of playing non-stop folk metal. Here's another possibility for you.
