The Future of Entertainment
Last year I covered the fascinating Futures of Entertainment conference at MIT, where panelists discussed everything from user-built game worlds to the rise and fall of Friendster. I won't be filing a dispatch from this year's conference, but I thought I'd let Reason readers know that it's going to take place November 16-17 and that fewer than 50 seats are left. This year's topics include cult media, the future of advertising, and the uneasy position of fans' uncompensated labor in the commercial marketplace. For more details, go here.

Might I just say Snakes on a Plane? Sadly, the meme was well on the decline by the time the movie actually came out. Still, I did my part and bought a ticket. Actually, Sam Jackson called my brother and personally threatened him if we didn't go and see it, so we kinda had to go.
Rock bands have always relied on uncompensated fans for local promo purposes. Nothing new there, other than today's more widespread communication possibilities.
what planet is this conference on?
Friendster is bigger today than it ever was and is now the 15th largest site in the world.
