Thinking of Virginia Postrel
As she posted on her blog last week, today is the day that former reason editor Virginia Postrel begins chemotherapy for cancer. Her prognosis is good and her spirits are high.
Virtually no one has done more to build the readership and profile of reason and her contributions to contemporary political and cultural discussions over the past two-decades plus are nothing short of invaluable. On behalf of everyone at Reason Foundation, the nonprofit that publishes the print and online editions of reason, I want to wish her a swift and speedy recovery.

Best wishes, Virginia. You'll be in the prayers of the non-Atheist readership.
Best wishes to her. She has always been a spark for cogent thought, even when I disagreed with her.
Give 'em hell, Virginia.
The way I heard it, the magazine was much better when Virginia Postrel was here.
The way I heard it, the magazine was much better when Virginia Postrel was here.
I used to pay for it back then.
I had no idea.
Good luck Virginia. Kick its ass.
I didn't know. I really hope things work out. I have The Future and its Enemies, I plan to read it after i finish Goldfinger.
Best wishes for a speedy and dynamic recovery.
Best Wishes Virginia,
Hopefully your better before we get our new Hillary-Bush-Romneyized health care plans put into place.
God bless you, Virginia Postrel, for everything you've done for modern classical liberal thinking. Take care of yourself and get well soon. We need you in the world.
I've enjoyed the occasions when Virginia had to call H&R to order.
We will continue to need that for a long time to come.
My thoughts and hopes for the best are with you. Get well soon, you're needed.
I wish you all the best, Virginia. Take good care of yourself!
While you often make me mad (and will no doubt make me mad for decades to come) there is no one who can turn a phrase -- or an argument like you, Virginia Postrel.
Here's an idea: read Atlas while you're convalescing!!

By coincidence, today is also the day my wife begins chemotherapy for her cancer. Unfortunately, in her case it's incurable.
My best wishes to everyone who is fighting this disease.
For those of you who haven't read Choice: The Best of Reason, Virginia Postrel's essay within is truly a bellwether and clarion call of post-Cold War libertarianism.
Best of luck, Virginia.
Best wishes to the Postrel and Borok families.
Best wishes Virginia.
Best wishes, get better soon!
Get well soon, Virginia!
best of luck and best wishes to their families.
Thinking of you and wishing the best Virginia!

Wishing you all the best, Virginia, because you are the best!
I survived two bouts with the big C, the first (and worst) sixteen years ago.
I wish Ms. Postrel the very best, and an easy time with the chemo. I hope she feels as good as I do now, real soon.
Yeah, "kick its ass!"
CB.
Best wishes.

Definitely. I know it not from hearsay.
Best wishes, a full recovery, Virginia.
got dam it [kicks a rock across the parking lot]
Hang in there.
All our best, Ms VP.
Hang in there, V -- keep your spirits up and remember you're in better shape than a lot of other chemo patients.
After all, if the chemo causes nausea, you should have little trouble finding contacts who can hook you up with some... uhh... medication for that. 😉

Best wishes to the Postrel and Borok families.
Seconded!
And I really loved The Substance of Style!
There aren't enough people with your kind of mind in the world, Virginia. Kick this things ass, and come back to us.
Best wishes, Ms. Postrel!
With the unbelievable hostility of Reasonoids/Rhoemite types to the existence of Jews in their homeland Israel, I could say something nasty here -- but I kind of have a soft spot in my heart for Mrs. Postrel (not to mention wishing to not sink down to the level of the Rhoemites here).
G-d speed and quick recovery, Virginia!
My very best wishes for Virginia's full recovery, and soon. Reason is a better magazine for her having been there, as is the rest of the world. It'd be better for that to continue for a long, long time.
I met her once. I regard that as a personal highlight.
Best wishes for a fast and full recovery, Virginia. Hang in there and thanks for enriching our lives.
We love you, Virginia. Met you at Mike Snell's place, 1995. You were beautiful then, beautiful now. Thank you for everything you've given us with Reason.

As someone who has cancer himself and has undergone chemotherapy, I know what it is you will be going through. I wish you the best of luck and I will pray for you. Good luck on your way to a hopefully speedy recovery.
Awww.
Whoa, I didn't see this item until just now.
Postrel-era REASON was a major force in shaping my political thinking. In fact, I count Virginia as one of the writers who most influenced my political thinking as a youth: Pournelle, Sowell, Orwell and Postrel. And Friedman. (I know, it's an odd melange.)
Best wishes for you, Ms. Postrel.
Hang in there, Virginia. We are all pulling for ya!
