The Smoke Gets in Your Window
Code enforcement officials in Maidenhead, England, ordered the staff of The Greyhound pub to close its windows. Officers said smoke from people smoking outside could drift into the pub, causing it to be in violation of laws banning smoking inside. The pub later reopened its windows after lawyers assured the owners there was nothing in the smoking ban requiring them to keep them closed. But enforcement officials are unapologetic about their order. "I can confirm we advised the premises that the windows be closed. "This is in keeping with good practice to ensure compliance with the spirit of the legislation," said environmental health officer Gillian Taylor.
