Gay Marriage Bashing Contest

Even before the New Jersey Supreme Court's ruling on gay marriage, Tennessee's U.S. Senate candidates were brawling over who was more steadfast in defending the sacred institution against the homosexual onslaught. Now the competition has intensified. Yesterday Harold E. Ford, the Democrat, responded to a Republican National Committee ad that accused him of supporting gay marriage with a spot slamming the RNC's "despicable, rotten lies." Ford says he will vote for the gay marriage ban that's on Tennessee's ballot next month. His opponent, Bob Corker, does him one better by saying he already voted for it, presumably via absentee ballot. Ford, whose morality has already been questioned, can't afford to back down from this fight. He should say he plans to vote for the ban twice.

Ford's always taken a lot of crap on liberal blogs for his views he holds, or pretends to hold, on social issues. Prayer in school, gay rights, bashing his party for being anti-religion without ever providing any evidence for the claim - he might as well be a Repbulican.

Generalizations are an argumentive fallacy. Having said that, stereotypes are true for a only a percent of its population.

It's simple: The Bible-beaters are members of a religion who has targeted homosexual behavior as an "abomination." To the conservative christian there is no divide between church and state and therefore their notion of...ahem..."morality" should be reflected in the law. Otherwise God let's let's bad things happen to his choosen people. (Remember Jerry Fawell's post-9-11 comments?)

To some on the X-ian Right, the "faggots, dykes, and switch hitters" (as my uber-Catholic father calls them) should be thankful we're only treating them as second class citizens and not stoning them as demanded by Leviticus. The rest think we're still being way too lenient.

Of course, for the Republicans themselves, it's a great way to scare their bible-beating base into voting for them.

The Girl was out w/ her girl gang the other night & the subject of marriage came up. I guess she got asked if we'd get married, as it was our 10th ann living together. She mentioned Brad Pitts statement a while back that he wont marry till everybody can- meanin gay folks- and as the girls parsed that, she says- so that so inspired me I vowed not to get married- til I can marry Brad Pitt.
Another round of margaritas soon followed.....
