9/11 X –100,000?
Small aircraft crashes into a 50-story condo tower on the Upper East Side. Two fatalities reported so far. FBI says—what else?—there's no indication it was terrorism.
Update: The story gets weirder. There was a mayday call, and the pilot may have been controversial Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle.
Conspiracy update: Lidle's passport was found in the street below the crash site? I'm beginning to suspect a Steinbrenner setup.

It is worth pointing out that today is the 11th. 9/11 in the US, 3/11 in Spain....
CNN noted that the crash occurred at 72nd Street and York Avenue and that the site is close to Rockefeller Center. It is nowhere near Rockefeller Center.
10/11/06 = 9/11/01 UPSIDE DOWN!!!!!!!!11!! OMG!1!11
This is 2 blocks from my apartment on York and 74th, and, yeah, it is very far from Rockefeller Center. What it is near is Sotheby's, as some outlets are reporting.
What makes Cory Lidle so controversial? Other than the fact that he has been accused of being a scab during the 94 strike thing.
Wow man -- that smell is the stench of millions of Bush supporters crapping their pants in unison. Jesus -- what a sorry bunch of pussies the republicans have become. Every right wing blog I read was screaming "terror terror terror"! YOu would think these maroons crave fear -- must get some sort of validation from it.
Well, crashing your plane into a residential building is hardly a crowd pleaser.
Congrats to Marcus for finding the true importance of this story.
Why do Yankees hate America?
Why does Cory Lidle hate America?
Hmmmm. I guess Yankee pitchers can hit the side of a building after all.
Oh, and there is no truth to the rumor that when Torre informed Steinbrenner he said "George, I've got some good news and some bad news about that crash of a Yankee's airplane. The good news, it wasn't Jeter; the bad news, it wasn't A-Rod."
Yet another reason to hate the Yankees.
Yankees suck!!

It gets better. This was 5 years and 1 month after 9/11. 5 years and 1 month from today would be... 11/11/11!!!
Seriously though, this is just crazy. I watched this guy pitch every fifth day for the first half of the season for the Phillies. Now he just crashed his plane into a building. Crazy.
I say the Yankees need to be declared a terrorist outfit. We can't sit by and wait to collect all the facts. We can't let honest hard-working Americans die because we waited for the rules of evidence. We need to arrest all the Yankees and send them to Gitmo; behaps a little bit of torture will loosen thier lips.
Facts:
1) A Cubs fan met with a Yankees fan in Prague in 1999.
2) The Cubs and the Yankees both play baseball.
3) The Cubs have also tried to procure planes and helicopters.
Conclusion: WE MUST GO TO WAR WITH THE CUBS!!!!!
You can be ABSOLUTELY SURE the Republicans will all be talking about the security threat of people being allowed to fly airplanes over manhattan.
"How could this have happened? What if a TERRORIST wanted to fly a small plane over manhattan?! Surely we must pass a new law banning this. Surely we must name this new, domestic security law after Cory Lidle! The Cory Lidle Metropolitan Airspace Protection Act! To protect the children! Certainly this is the issue we should all be talking about, and the fact that the Democrats just want to talk about us ass-raping our underage congressional pages is their way of trying to skirt the "important" issues facing the American people." Heh, yeah. Get ready for it.

So, that supercool "what else?" in front of the FBI's statement sure does look impressive right about now.
Yeah, because Foley "ass-raped" his pages.
There's no proof he ever had any sexual contact with them whatsoever. Get over yourself.
I find this story terribly sad. It's absolutely incredible (and wonderful) that no one in that apartment building, or on the ground, was killed. I'm glad they ended up cancelling the Mets game - I'll bet New York was not exactly in a festive opening-night mood.

And the Democrats will throw in their support too, because no-one should be rich enough to own their own airplane!
CBS News claimed that everyone was thinking the same thing when they saw the fire: terrorism. I very much doubt this, unless Al Qaeda has a kindergarten division. My thought upon hearing that claim: "Yeah, if this is terrorism it is the most pathetic attack in history." The parallels with 9/11 were superficial at best. "Ooh. Building. Fire. Up." I think the media's rabid obsession with terrorism did a real disservice to Lidle and his family in this case. And is it really true that fighters were scrambled in response? What were they gonna do, start shooting down Cesnas?
So my question is: if I accidentally break a glass in the kitchen, do I have to yell into the living room, "Don't worry everybody, it wasn't terrorism!"
Didn't they also 'find' Mohammed Atta's passport on the street below the Twin Towers?
(I smell a standup routine:) 'Hey, they should make the hard parts of the plans out of black boxes, and the soft parts out of passports!'
Well, I pretty much know what to say if any member of the Yankees ever asks me if I want to go for a ride in his plane.
Is it a good idea to allow recreational pilots fly over places with tall buildings and high density populations?
Lidle was actually flying around the city, over the rivers. Close enough though (obviously).
You assholes are pathetic. Two men die hideously, a six year old boy suddenly has no father, at least one woman is a widow, countless New Yorkers have nightmarish flashbacks and all you buttplugs can do is make jokes. How sophisticated.
Jerks.
