Attn, DC Reasonoids: Happy Hour, Tonight, 6.30PM
Come out and celebrate the publication of Reason's October issue on Wednesday, September 13, at 6:30PM at the upstairs bar at Dragonfly (1215 Connecticut Avenue NW, a couple of blocks from the south exit of the Dupont Circle Metro stop).
Reason staffers NICK GILLESPIE, JESSE WALKER, RON BAILEY, KERRY HOWLEY, and DAVE WEIGEL will be on hand to tell tales of Reason's recent Amsterdam conference with South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone ("the libertarian version of Davos," according to John Tierney in The New York Times), the gray market in human egg donation, what it's like to guest blog at Wonkette and Andrew Sullivan's Time blog, and more.
SPECIAL GUEST STAR: Radley Balko, host of The Agitator blog and author of the new Cato Institute study Overkill: The Rise of Paramilitary Police Raids in America and "The Case of Cory Maye," a haunting investigative piece about race, the drug war, and the death penalty, in our latest issue.
NEW SPECIAL GUEST STAR: Jim Henley, harsh master of the excellent Unqualified Offerings blog, will be in attendance, as well.
EVEN NEWER, LATE-NIGHT SPECIAL GUEST STARS: Some of the folks involved in tonight's great medical marijuana event will be joining us later in the evening.
BONUS: Free issues, stickers, randomly sized T-shirts, and secret guest stars to be named at a later date.

Can't make it. I keep meaning to come to one of these things and it never quite works out.
As a side note, I am curious about the geographic diversity of the Reason faithful. Has anyone there ever analyzed the demographics of unique visitors?
Just wanted to see if Texas was well represented. I know we have been recently joined by Jacob.
OK, this is WAY off topic too but I saw this and thought I just had to share it
Check out the lead paragraph:
A group of severely brain-damaged patients given little chance of recovery by medical experts are awakening after receiving a radical new course of medication - in the form of a sleeping pill
ChicagoTom,
That is fascinating news. A bit too late to help Terri Schiavo. Oh well, what she doesn't know can't hurt her.
Off topic, sorta,

The NSA lets you search to see which calls of yours they have monitored. Terrorist self-screening.

You guys ever going to have a get together in Los Angeles, California or Vegas?
Did anybody actually look at NAST&T? At first I thought that it was a spoof, .org? As it turns out, there is a hell of alot of data in there, according to the FAQ it is all real. Some other people should check it out, it is not the "NSA" but they are still scary. I love the part about how they do not track communists anymore.
Looking around more, things got stranger. The FAQ page is really strange, with things like "You can assist us by clicking here to report the person you suspect of having contact with countries in the Middle East." but the best is on the tip page where it has a link to 2600 magazine, that I did not expect.
Unless Doris Ozmun or Norma Jean Almodovar happened to have attended, please don't post images this time... I'm old enough to remember the Golden Days of radio, and I'm slipping back into those Golden Days... can't help myself.
And I've been around cyberspace long enough to know where to go for truly good images.
(smacky,
OK to keep your images coming.)
