A Bunch of Buncombe
Pamela Goodson returned home to find Buncombe County, North Carolina, sheriff's deputies trying to coax her St. Bernard from underneath her house. It turns out one of the deputies had shot the dog. He says it was self-defense. But Goodson isn't buying it. She wants to know how Deputy Rusty Bell shot her dog between the shoulders, if, as Bell claims, the dog was leaping at him. Goodson had to have the dog euthanized because of its injuries. The deputy apparently stopped at Goodson's home by mistake while trying to serve legal papers on someone else.
