Rabid Response

Three people in China's Moulding County have died recently of rabies, and officials have responded by beating to death some 50,000 dogs. The Associated Press reports that killing teams seized dogs being walked from their owners and beat them to death on the spot. "With the aim to keep this horrible disease from people, we decided to kill the dogs," said Li Haibo, a spokesman for the county government. The killing spree left just military and police dogs untouched.
