Blair Gets the Dumbchies
From The Independent of London:
Tony Blair is planning a controversial U-turn on cannabis laws and the reintroduction of tough penalties after an official government review found a definitive link between use of the drug and mental illness. […]
[T]he Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD) has detailed evidence showing cannabis triggers psychosis in regular users. The findings are expected be used by Mr Blair to overturn the decision made two years ago to downgrade the drug.
Article here. No word on whether the study confirmed a definitive link between long-term governance and incurable jackassery.
Speaking of Euro-skunk, Czech friends tell me that when the government moderately tightened the generally loose possession laws not long ago, Czechs just shrugged and began smoking it even more openly than usual in bars and clubs. After the mocking civil disobedience, the government is now looking to climb back down.

Bill Clinton smoked dope and look whata dope he was
…cannabis triggers psychosis in regular users.
I use to think that sort of reefer-madness junk-science would backfire on the WOD crowd. But in the past 30 years, it hasn?t yet. I guess the drug warriors have noticed the same thing, and concluded there is nothing too ridiculous they can’t get away with. Here’s hoping they’re wrong and that there is some point where they can go too far. If there is, I’m confident they will cross it soon.
You promised me paranoid delusions and psychoses!
Where are my paranoid delusions and psychoses?!
“Where are my paranoid delusions and psychoses?!”
Seems the drug warriors have managed a monopoly on ’em.
So all this hoopla is about changing marijuana from a class C drug back to a class B drug? The only difference seems to be the harshness of punishment, and we all know that it makes perfect sense to punish people for punishing themselves. The worse a drug hurts you, the worse the state hurts you for using it.
And you gotta love this:
…the ACMD does not believe that the health risks justify cannabis being moved back to class B…
No word on whether the study confirmed a definitive link between long-term governance and incurable jackassery.
Can’t…. stop…. laughing….
Bill Clinton is a dope because he didn’t inhale.

…and this (from the Royal College of Psychiatrists): “But in this event (decriminialization) the government will not have access to methods of controlling use such as taxation, licensing, or minimum age restriction as currently apply to legal drugs like alcohol and tobacco, since cannabis will remain in the black market.”
Is Britain being inconsistent? Huge on-line gambling companies are trading on the London Stock Exchange instead of the NYSE. Those companies are illegally siphoning money from the US. Plus gambling puts hair on the palm of your hand… or something like that.
Paraphrasing someone pithier: Anyone who doubts that marijuana leads to psychosis need only look at what mere mention of it does to politicians.
Everybody smokes, or has smoked, weed. Doesn’t everybody notice that everybody isn’t suffering from psychosis?
I mean, paranoid hype about obscure drugs I can understand. But this is weed! The people reading about this stuff have smoked it. They know it’s bullshit.
Does everyone just assume that the other people smoking weed are going crazy?
Mystifying.
“Most offences of cannabis possession now result in a warning and confiscation of the drug.”
The surest way to make them bleed, is to bust their ass, and steal their weed.
You have “[T]he Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs” which owes its reason for being (and funding) to fixing the misuse of drugs. What is the chance that they’ll discover that the worst long-term effect of pot is little holes burned in your clothes?
…and this (from the Royal College of Psychiatrists): “But in this event (decriminialization) the government will not have access to methods of controlling use such as taxation, licensing, or minimum age restriction as currently apply to legal drugs like alcohol and tobacco, since cannabis will remain in the black market.”
Sounds like a credible psychiatric opinion to me.
