We Gonna Let it All Hang Down in Denver
Attention, mile-high Reasonistas: I'll be on Denver's Rick Barber Show on KOA AM 850 at the midnight hour, talking about the smoking bans sweeping the nation. We'll be taking phone calls and yakking the night away, so please call in with abuse, and maybe I'll tell the largely uninteresting story of one of two protests I've ever led in my life -- a "smoke-in" at the campus Pub of UC Santa Barbara, which has like 80-foot ceilings, 20-foot windows, and a stiff breeze coming off the 100-feet-away Pacific Ocean. Or at least I think it did….

How come you're not listed as one of his hotter guests ?
And what's the phone# ?
OK, that was funny...
I thought Welch would be on Coast to Coast, talking about famous libertarian ghosts...known for being scary but rather unobtrusive.
this guy doesn't seem too far off from Art Bell if you follow his "hotter guests" "who built the pyramids" link
Cool, but Rick Barber comes on at 1:00 AM here in Denver (midnight in Cal) and I'm not sure if I'll be up that late tonight but if I am, I'll call for sure. The # is 303-713-8585. KOA is a 50,000 watt station so you can here it all over the place, even places like Mars and California. 🙂 But really, it can be heard in like 38 states, for sure in Cal.
I call KOA quite a bit.
Hey Matt, promote Reason and the site and H&R like crazy when you're on. If I call, I will for sure too. BTW, Rick Barber self describes as a libertarian.

I hope your right about getting reception in CA (i'm in the SF bay area) It should be staring a few minutes here.
Kris,
It will start at Midnight, Cal time.
Way too freakin' late for me. 🙁 🙁
BTW, there was some minor talk of getting together a Western Reasonoid get together a couple months ago.
Anyone still up for putting something together?
Rick,
Thanks, I was thinking eastern time (stupid, stupid stupid!!!) even though I, like, totaly read your commennt...

D'oh!
You're right though, the station does come in here, albiet not very good. Fortunately, in a moment of pure inspiration, I realized I could listen on line! I'm just not sure I'll stay awake that long. I think I'll put the bottle away now. 🙂
mediageek,
The West is a big place. Where ya thinkin?
An article in Modern Drunkard Magazine claimed that a smoking ban in Minneapolis was especially hated by restaurant employees, the folks the ban is supposed to protect, cause they're largely huffers themselves (and it's COLD outside in those parts!). Only anectodal ev I know, even leaving the credibility of MDM aside, but seems plausible enough...

mediageek,
Anywhere in the greater SF bay area and I'm down, like from as far north as Sacramento, to to as far south as San Jose, maybe further, I'm kind of in the middle.
I can't believe the tenure thing got shot down. Yes, by all means, so long as we're throwing piles of money at schools that get worse every year, let's make sure the people we're throwing the money at are completely unaccountable...
Fyodor, I was actually thinking Denver. Perhaps the Rock Bottom Brewery?
Oh, and Modern Drunkard rocks. Were I the sort to subscribe to magazines and leave them laying about on coffee tables and such, I'd have to go with Reason, MDM, and S.W.A.T.
You know. Just to see the reaction on the faces of guests who drop in.
mediageek,
I'm in Denver and would love to do this sometime!! Rick Barton's in town too...
Yep. I'm up for it any time for sure.
Another Denverite here, and I know there are more. And I believe Modern Drunkard is based in Denver, FWIW. They have a madcap convention in town every May. Free copies are available at bars here and there.
Sweet!
Anyone else?
I'm down in The Springs, but getting to Denver on a Saturday is no big thang.
Can't do it this Saturday myself, but I'm probably free the 19th!
The 19th is good for me too! I'm sure they'll give us a thread to publicize it.
And I believe Modern Drunkard is based in Denver, FWIW
Yep. A friend of mine works for The Buzz Magazine, and I asked him about Modern Drunkard. He told me he's met their editor a couple of times.
I could probably swing the 19th, if it's in the evening. I'm considering going to an IDPA match in Pueblo, but I would assume that would be wrapped up by early afternoon.
I'll also be in Denver on the 26th, so an evening get together then would be good for me, though with it being Thanksgiving weekend I don't know if that would futz with others' schedules.
Have changed my email to the real thing. If anyone has suggestions on places or whatnot, that's cool. I've only been to Denver a few times, and am really only familiar with the more well-known places downtown.
Hey all,
Fyodor and I have been talking via email, and have come up with the following plan:
Rock Bottom Brewery
1001 16th Street #A-100
Denver, CO 80265
November 19th, 6:30pm
Anyone who's interested, drop me an email.
Sounds groovy! I'm so planning on being there! Let's get a separate thread to announce it. I was about to email fyodor myself. Thanks for taking the initiative, you two.
