Q: What Do These Blogs Have in Common?
Low Culture, Matthew Yglesias, Captain's Quarters, Buzzmachine, and Hit & Run.
A: They're dubbed "five winning political blogs" in the October issue of Playboy.
From the blurb about this very site: "Under the banner 'continuous news, views, and abuse,' these caustic, sarcastic, thought-provoking libertarians pick fights (sometimes with each other) and sacrifice sacred cows."
You'll have to suffer through a "Girls of the PAC 10" pictorial to get to the blog bit, but we never promised you a rose (bowl) garden.

Of course I'm buying the October issue for the article on blogs, honey! Gee, why else would you think I got it?
are you saying theres something wrong with the girls of the pac 10?
The Playboy "college girls" pictorals have gone downhill over the past few years. Like their counterparts on the football teams in the PAC10 and SEC they're thinly veiled professionals. They still look better naked than the football teams tho....
I'm looking right now at the August 1972 edition of Reason. On page 23 it says, and I quote, "We promise you a rose garden."
Congrats on the props.
SIR - I take issue with your recent comment insinuating the unpleasantness of a "Girls of the PAC 10" pictorial in a recent issue of Playboy magazine. I wonder, have you had a chance yourself to look over this pictorial feature carefully? I ask primarily because I myself appear in this pictorial with my tits out, and both myself and my tits are very close to perfect.
PAC 10 Girl
Are the "Girls fo the PAC 10" the hookers that the boosters hire for the players?
Congrats on the notice! Soon, we can expect hordes of avid Playboy readers to descend upon this forum.
PS: Commenting lads, has it ever occurred to you that the women featured in the "Girls of the PAC 10" are all going to be buying this issue of Playboy for their scrapbooks? And some percentage of them will see the mention of Hit & Run? And some percentage of that group will visit this site? You'll never get anywhere with 'em if you gratuitously insult 'em.
PPS: And obviously Nick is being sarcastic when he speaks of "suffering through" the pictorial. Sheesh.
PPPS: Yes, I also noticed the "fo" typo.
I don't know that I've ever seen Reason bloggers "pick fights" with each other per se, even when they openly disagree, which isn't all that often.
The sideshow of us commenters, OTOH, is sure a whole 'nother story. Might I reasonably conclude that it is to us that they are refering about that?
but we never promised you a rose (bowl) garden.

I'm looking through the rest of the issues to see if we were ever promised a bowl.
I'm pretty sure we were. I'll be keeping an eye out in the mail, Nick.
Stevo, your optimism is truly inspiring.
Matthew Yglesias, libertarian? This is the Matthew Yglesias who defends the drug war on utilitarian grounds, right?
When one sacrifices a sacred cow, do you then eat the angelic steak only to turn it into holy shit? And should it be served with fava beans and a chianti, the steak that is?
I miss the days when Reason was written by real libertarians who promised their readers rose gardens.
Okay, so the pornsters have recognized this blog. Next up: High Times.
No, they're not saying Yglesias is a libertarian. That was just talking about Hit & Run. OTOH, I get very depressed when I see them highlighting Captain's Quarters, which has a perfect batting average at getting me angry every time I make the mistake of reading something there.
A well-deserved award!
And fitting for a libertarian publication.
Hey, cool, maybe EVERY Hit&Run regular will do a relevant sex post this week! So far we have Jeff, Tim and Nick. All on the weekend. For some reason.
How 'bout it Julian? Matt? Jesse? Jacob?
Hey, it's http://www.talklikeapirate.com/ day!
Being a sadomasochist, I must have gone through that pictorial 10 times. Oh, the blessed agony.
People still buy Playboy?
Great. Thanks Playboy. I'm sure we're now in for an inundation of mouthbreathers who think they're libertarians.

mediageek,
You say, "optimism", I say "keep dreaming, Stevo". 🙂
smacky: A troubador once sang, "Don't stop ... believin' ... Hold on to your feee-hailings ..." Yes, it was Steve Perry of Journey. Words to live by. And not just for "streetlight people" or those "born and raised in South Detroit."
PS: I know that just reading this post has put you in terrific pain. I can be very cruel when my optimism is pooh-poohed.
Hey, it's http://www.talklikeapirate.com/ day!
Then it's time for my favorite pirate joke.
A pirate walks into a bar, and he has a steering wheel sticking out of the front of his pants. The bartender says, "Hey, buddy, do you know you have a steering wheel sticking out of your pants?" And the pirate says, "Aye! It's driving me nuts!"
Thank you.
Hey, it's http://www.talklikeapirate.com/ day!
Avast! I had fully intended to celebrate this great day o' piratical yappin', but my memory must have walked the plank!
A pile o' bountiful booty to ye for bringin' it up!
You say, "optimism", I say "keep dreaming, Stevo". 🙂
If Stevo's a dreamer, then so am I. :-p
See? I'm not the only one.
Perhaps someday you'll join us ... and the world will live as one.
This is somewhat on-topic, but did anyone else notice the "Reason Rocks" link on the homepage of reason.com? :
Bwa? (that is the sound of my confusion)
I have no idea how long that movie has been there, but I just noticed it now.
linguist,
I wouldn't worry too much about mouth breathers invading this site, as they are probably not getting Playboy for the articles. The invasion happened somewhere around the "Nearly Headless Nick" article Tim posted shortly after the Nick Berg beheading.
I avoid Playboy because it glorifies Bush.
