Fleet Street journalism is over, as Reuters closes up shop. An office of a Scottish Thomson publisher is still there, as is AFP, but these days you'd have more luck finding a brewer in Milwaukee.

In the wake of the late Paul Kalmanovitz's zombiefication of the Pabst Brewing Co., other, smaller brewers have arisen to make sure that SAB/Miller isn't the only hometown brew. Lakefront and Sprecher make some dandy microbrews, which are available on tap or in bottles around the area. Both outfits have hooked up with distributors in other states, too - 6 of them in Sprecher's case, 13 if you just want their sodas.

Brewtown will remain a brewing town for a while, yet.

Let me pile on more praise for Sprecher and just add they've been in Milwaukee for 20 years.

Wisconsin is jammed with excellent craft and micro-breweries. One of the things I miss about the place. Dallas may have the babes, but Wisconsin had the brews.
