A Scanner Darkly
The Nation is reporting that Mark Felt, a.k.a. Deep Throat,
was assigned the mission of unearthing--and stopping--Deep Throat.
This placed Felt, who as the FBI's associate director oversaw the bureau's Watergate probe, in an unusual position. He was essentially in charge of investigating himself.
And as long as I'm linking to Watergate articles: If you haven't seen it yet, you should take a look at the Albany Times Union's story alleging that at least three high-level FBI officials helped Felt leak information to the Post.

Its not Watergate, but wasn't an investigator investigating himself the premise of the movie No Way Out?
I guess it was only fitting that Deep Throat would blow the whole investigation.
For anyone who cares and happens to be in the Albany area, the former editor of the Times Union behind this particular story will be appearing with the current editor on June 22nd at 7:30 pm in Albany...518-474-5877 for details
If not A Scanner Darkly, then Infernal Affairs.
One of Kurt Vonnegut's books features a Jewish character who infiltrated the SS to gather intelligence for the allies. The SS realized there was a mole, and put him in charge of plugging the leak.
He must have done a great job, because he had 72 people shot.
This is probably the closest I'll ever come to having my name in H&R headline.
Yes, but I'd take A Stevo Darkly over A Scanner Darkly any day.
