It Was So Thrilling, Some of Us Even Showed Up
Been awhile since you enjoyed the laffs at The Huffington Post? Here's a collection of opening lines from recent blog items:
- Erica Jong: "As usual, Bill Maher is right."
- Jerry and Joe Long: "A few random thoughts while trying to figure out how it is that Al Qaeda can even have websites?"
- Arianna Huffington: "Here I am at the 2005 Take Back America conference in Washington. I haven't seen this many committed progressives in one place since Pete Seeger and the Weavers disbanded."
- Randall Robinson: "I can no longer bear it. Even at the risk of being misunderstood. Of committing a gaffe of some magnitude or other - - a breach of some protocol, for instance, that I may not have heard of. Or, of some unwritten rule whose provenance no-one remembers anymore."
- Torie Osborn: "The excitement was contagious at the first (only) meeting of Mayor-Elect Antonio Villaraigosa's Transition Team at the Science Center in south LA on Monday. Many of the 82 of us were there."

Every one's a gem.
Maybe I'm living under a rock, but I don't know who half of these fuckers are. They seem important. Or at least they think they are.
I think we're all in the same boat Mr. Nice Guy.
...If I had to, I'd guess that many of 'em were at one of Huffiana's events the night before. Sometimes the posts look like she just passed a laptop around the table after dessert.
"Many of the 82 of us were there."
That is some kind of terrible genius ....
...You know what she is? She's like the Andy Warhol of the 21st Century, except without the irony!
Erica Jong? Pete Seeger? What decade is this?
?Many of the 82 of us were there.? Is the new ?poop holds the tent wher it is?
I'm confused about this Harry Shearer poster. I mean, he looks like the guy in the Spinal Tap movie, and all those other wonderful half-improved works like "A Mighty Wind", etc, etc.
But this poster ISN'T INTERESTING OR FUNNY!
What's up with dat?
"improv-ed"
Whatta bunch of kumbayahoos.
'Is the new ?poop holds the tent wher it is?'
What?
Some of the stuff over there makes HuffingtonsToast seem like the real site and HuffingtonPost seem like the parody
Erica Jong? Pete Seeger? What decade is this?
Its the '70s, forevermore. The eternal twilight of the boomers.
Huh,
"Poop holds the tent wher it is" was a 'Red Zone' entry in the fabled Dysfunctional Family Circus.

I was always partial to "trippin my nut sack into a frenzy of dik play".
Erica Jong: "Multiply 9/11 times a million."
My god, that's... nine-hundred-and-eleven million!
Actually, since there were 2,986 fatalities on 9/11, it would be about 3,000,000,000. That's half of the entire population of the Earth (6.4 billion).
That's a big f'ing bomb...
Salvius,
Wouldn't 9/11 times a million be 818181.8....?
Talk about shooting fish in a barrel...
'"Poop holds the tent wher it is" was a 'Red Zone' entry in the fabled Dysfunctional Family Circus.'
Considering that the phrase produces a grand total of four Google hits, I'd say your pop culture perspective is more than a bit distorted -- and that my "huh?" is more than a bit justified.
I didn't realize they had a comment section!
...I don't think it's on every post...but...but you can *sniff* post comments on some of the *sniff* articles now...!
...Sorry for the tears, it's just that...I'm just so freakin happy!
If Huffington doesn't impress you maybe Huffington's Toast will.
Erica Jong...Randall Robinson...Torie Osborn...
I thought this was supposed to be a celebrity blog.
I lean left, but I have to say I really don't give a rat's ass about what the Huffington Post people have to say.
The quasi-celebrity gaggle does nothing for me. I'd much rather find a blog by a single thoughtful person.
Mr. Nice Guy, have you ever listened to Shearer's "Le Show"?
Occasional funny bits, but more often boring. The funny parts, I found, were often just him making fun of what he found in the hollywood trade papers. And even then the funny parts weren't very rich in laffs.
His skits and impersonations usually fell flat.
