Perhaps There's More, Hiding Behind the Green Door
While Mark Felt formally accepts the title of Deep Throat, Edward Jay Epstein is sticking with the thesis that DT was a composite character. He makes some good points -- to the extent that I ever favored a Deep Throat theory, I leaned towards that one -- but he'd be more convincing if he'd take advantage of this new development, call up Felt, and ask him about the apparent anomalies, rather than merely repeating what we already know, or think we know.
The next mystery: Did Felt inform on Nixon willingly, or was he coerced by Chuck Traynor? Some say that if you watch All the President's Men really carefully, you can see his bruises.

Actually, I think Hal Holbrook just happened to have gotten into a brawl with Frederic March that morning over who played a better Mark Twain.
My homework this weekend will be to watch President's Men, but sync up the audio of Deep Throat, and look for coincidences.
I thought it was Felt's conversion to strident feminism that was most surprising.

Well, shouldn't be a suprise, given his lack of a gag reflex.
I'm kinda disappointed that Diane Sawyer wasn't Deep Throat. Yeah, yeah, I'm a pig...
In the spirit of George Lucas reediting his 30 year old movies to make them consistent with his new vision, will someone splice Mark Felt's face into "All the President's Men"?
Jeff, I think you're making a mistake. I plan to watch Deep Throat with the audio from All the President's Men. I'm sure it will make what is already a great film into a masterpiece.
"will someone splice Mark Felt's face into 'All the President's Men'?"
That would be unbelievably cool.
just don't splice it into "Deep Throat"
Wow! A Jim Lowe reference!
Oh, not that Green Door. 🙂

I think it's funny that of all the Deep Throat suspects, Felt was probably the one who looked most like Holbrook. The film would look really silly if Deep Throat had turned out to be Pat Buchanan or someone else in his thirties at the time.
