Bill O, Hanoi Jane, & Me (Fox News Channel Edition)
It's not quite Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds. Or even Pocahontas, Marlon Brando & Neil Young. And certainly not Mother, Juggs, & Speed.
But I'll be on The O'Reilly Factor tonight, circa 8:40PM ET, to discuss my thumbs-up review of Jane Fonda's memoir, My Life So Far. (La Fonda, no doubt rolling around on top of the $23 million her new J. Lo-enhanced movie, Monster-in-Law pulled in last weekend, will only be there in spirit.)

Will it be like Frankenstein, Tonto and Tarzan?
no doubt rolling around on top of the $23 million her new J. Lo-enhanced movie, Monster-in-Law pulled in last weekend
How did that awful-looking movie end up #1??? Every review I saw panned it, hard. It only got a 17% on the tomatometer.
before a stint on o'reilly, do you practice saying "no, bill, why do *you* hate america?" in the mirror?
Will it be like Frankenstein, Tonto and Tarzan?
Tonto: Why Tarzan hate America?
Tarzan: Why Tonto hate America?
Frankenstein: Rrrrrr.... breaaaad goooood.....
Hey, that Mother, Juggs, and Speed looks intriguing. Any good?
Hey Nick, ask Bill, does he know the difference between a loofah and a falafel?
"La Fonda." Gillespie, your style owes so much to H.L. Mencken that you should make regular donations to the Enoch Pratt Library in Baltimore. 😉
Wasn't LaFonda the name of the woman Kip married in Napoleon Dynamite?
Nick, love ya like a brother babe, but why in god's name do you continue to give that moron the time of day?
Does this mean we'll get a rush of "dittoheads" (or whatever Factorites call themselves) on Hit & Run tonight?
"Nick, love ya like a brother babe, but why in god's name do you continue to give that moron the time of day?"
lesse:
1) giant cable show
2) exposure for reason
3) reason's got bills to pay
4) frothing falafels of truth
Part of me thinks that we have enough imbeciles here already. And yet I'd be curious to see what they'd post.
do O'Reilly Factor fans call themselves Factoids, by any chance?
David,
Yeah, but they're our imbeciles. Besides, we need a new Gunnels/Bart/Bourne. Surely, one of O'Reilly's imbeciles is up for the task.
I'd put any Randroid up against any Factoid, but then I'm holding a Reasonette as my hole card.
Don't be so sure of that Mo, they hang on his every word.
Try to work the words "pithy" and "bloviate" into the conversation.
/Once again, got nuthin'
"Pithy" seems out of place on the Factor.
"Bloviate", though, should be right at home.
Hmm. Nick gets several invites on Dennis Miller. Miller's show promptly collapses.
I'm not accusing Nick of being a career assassin or anything, but dare we hope for a trend?
No Star, pun intended? Smirk.
There is nothing about Jane Fonda that deserves a thumbs up. I am among the frothing masses of Fonda haters that wouldn't give you a nickel for a whole bag full of Jane Fondas.
Ever notice that every baby boomer icon is about a decade older than the generation they claimed to speak for? From Fonda, to her ex-hubby, to Hoffman, to Savio, in every case it was an older somewhat charismatic "leader" leading the throngs of baby boomers around by the schnoz.
That speaks volumes about the "movement", the hippies, us boomers, and the so-called leadership themselves.
Draft Beer, Not Students Regards, TWC
Dean-
The problem is that Bill O'Reilly tosses those two words around more often than Paris Hilton says "That's hot!"
Hell, I'm surprised he hasn't tried to trademark them.
I'm not accusing Nick of being a career assassin or anything, but dare we hope for a trend?
Perhaps Nick could be the Ted McGinley of nooze programs? If so, he needs to be booked on E! and Access Hollywood pronto.
Hey, that Mother, Juggs, and Speed looks intriguing. Any good?
Yeah, it's fun.
Raquel Welch in one of her bounciest roles.
Which one is she, "Mother"?
Nick,
I have a funny feeling that kool-aid abstainers give O'Reilly the time of day out of some combination of morbid curiosity, the chance for a good war story, and increased exposure.
Unfortunately theres not much in watching you made ridiculous that benefits people who already respect your opinion.
But, if you're going to do it, my advice? I might have a smidgen of fun watching Mr. Mxyzptlk defend Hanoi Jane to Bill O'Reilly.

On the career assassin thread, let me direct you to this old Mediabistro interview with me where your humble narrator cops to being the 'angel of death' for publications at which he worked."
Indeed, Reason, dear sweet Reason, seems to be the great exception to the string of publications I've buried. (And that sound you hear may well the fat lady tuning up.)
Teen Machine ? Kewl!!!
Todd - look at the link. She's Juggs, of course. I'm gonna have to rent that movie.
Oh great, more "seal the border" crapola. C'mon Bill, get to the star of the show. 🙂
Wow, Bill's central argument is based on a fraudulent e-mail forward. That's stupid even by his standards.
Boy Bill was sure trying hard to force Nick into a defense of Fonda. If he really just wanted to whine about Fonda he could have picked someone who actually agrees with her politics. But I guess the Ben Franklin hook was just too much to resist.
The first email I received, time-stamped 8:54pm:
Nick,
Was that one from Bill?
sadly i do not have cable. however.
"Well, I helped bring a youthful sensibility to such publications as Sew Business, which was about the yarn industry and sew shops. My masterpiece there was a piece about how sewing stores could put ads on MTV to get kids back interested into sewing. And, you know, I think history has borne me out on that."
this is actually true. knitting circles are becoming a seriously hot property amongst the ladies and a few brave/trolling gents in the city.
add minor prophet to your resume, o angel of death
Wow. The no-spinner sure spun the trailer to Nick's appearance to make it look like it was going to be something it wasn't.
Surprisingly, he let Nick talk.
I'm still with O'Reilly on this one....
Cee U Next Tuesday, Jane.
In regards to Mr. Gillespie's reference to snopes:
http://www.snopes.com/military/fonda.asp
"The most serious accusations in the piece quoted above, that Fonda turned over slips of paper furtively given her by American POWs to the North Vietnamese and that several POWs were beaten to death as a result, are untrue. Those named in the inflammatory e-mail categorically deny the events they supposedly were part of.
"It's a figment of somebody's imagination," says Ret. Col. Larry Carrigan, one of the servicemen mentioned in the 'slips of paper' incident. Carrigan was shot down over North Vietnam in 1967 and did spend time in a POW camp. He has no idea why the story was attributed to him, saying, "I never met Jane Fonda."
The tale about a defiant serviceman who spit at Jane Fonda and is severely beaten as a result is often attributed to Air Force pilot Jerry Driscoll. He has repeatedly stated on the record that it did not originate with him.
Mike McGrath, President of NAM-POWs, also stepped forward to disclaim the story:
Please excuse the generic response, but I have been swamped with so many e-mails on the subject of the Jane Fonda article (Carrigan, Driscoll, strips of paper, torture and deaths of POWs, etc.) that I have to resort to this pre-scripted rebuttal. The truth is that most of this never happened. This is a hoax story placed on the internet by unknown Fonda haters. No one knows who initiated the story. Please assist by not propagating the story. Fonda did enough bad things to assure her a correct place in the garbage dumps of history. We don't want to be party to false stories, which could be used as an excuse that her real actions didn't really happen either. I have spoken with all the parties named: Carrigan, Driscoll, et al. They all state that this particular internet story is a hoax and they wish to disassociate their names from the false story.
"
Even if you could remember those names, Mr. Gillespie, I don't blame you for telling reilly. All he can do is call you a liar. And most of his viewers believe him, and won't go check it out for themselves.
Taken from the article on mediabistro:
Time and Newsweek are always late on stuff because they're weekly, but they still try to break stories and they have these interminable trend stories which are always fake or phony.
Egads, given recent events, that seems downright prescient.
Nick Gillespie: (And that sound you hear may well the fat lady tuning up.)
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All right, I'll buy 50 copies of Choice and click on the Ultimate Fitness Program ad from 100 different IPs!
The stories of Fonda and the slips of paper pre-date the Internet by decades. These are persistent rumors that date all the way back to the height of the Viet Nam war.
