I had wondered about whether that would be a problem with public sex offender registries, and apparently it is.

  2. SPD   20 years ago

It's hard for me to feel sorry for this guy, though.

  3. Umbriel   20 years ago

I suppose I can see the reason for concern, but isn't it possible that some good could come out of hooking these guys up? Kind of like AA mentors?

  4. SPD   20 years ago

True. If anything, maybe it will turn into a Darwinian struggle of which sex offenders can out-rape and/or out-kill the others.

    Everybody wins!

  5. Isaac Bartram   20 years ago

I don't see a problem here. I mean, what's wrong with sex offenders dating each other? I thought we just don't want them dating other people, especially the children.

  6. D Anghelone   20 years ago

Well, if the result is their offending just each other... Kinda like a libertarian forum.

  7. dhex   20 years ago

this is ripe for a bill o'reilly treatment.

"but...but...but what if these sickos combine to form some sorta super rapist?"

  8. NoStar   20 years ago

A man and a woman are sitting side by side at a bar getting really wasted. They are both really depressed. The man asks the woman why she's so down and she replies, "My husband left me because he said I was too kinky in bed." "What a coincidence!" he said, "My wife just left me. She said I was too kinky in bed too." So they start talking and they find that they have much in common so they decide to go to the woman's apartment and have kinky sex. When they arrive at her apartment, she tells him she needs a few minutes so she can slip into something more comfortable. She comes out of the bathroom with a tight, black leather outfit with a whip, handcuffs, a strap-on cock, and a 12 inch studded dildo. Then she hurries into the kitchen and comes out with tabasco sauce, whipped cream, and a rolling pin. Then she notices that the man is putting on his coat and is walking towards the door. "What's going on?", she asks. "I thought you wanted to get kinky?" He turns around and says, "I just fucked your dog and shit in your purse. I'm all done."

  9. Xmas   20 years ago

Well, there is a history of sex offender couples causing trouble.

Plus, if any of these people are out of jail on parole, dating another sex offender probably breaks their release conditions.

  10. SPD   20 years ago

NoStar, you just made my day! I'm telling that one at the table next Thanksgiving!

  11. hunting girl   20 years ago

cite your source, NoStar -- that came from the Drew Carey interview. 🙂

  12. smacky   20 years ago

    Nostar: Busted!

You'd think a libertarian blogger would at least credit the originator of the joke. That will be a $50 fine. You can send it to me - I will pass it on to the appropriate people.

  13. sage   20 years ago

Fellow Libertarians, I have a question for you. I used to post on Yahoo's usenet boards, in particular, the "Libertarian" board. One of the hard-core democrats posted this message. If you follow the thread you can see various responses to this, but here's my question: Does the LP plank need some sort of revision that nulls this argument? What would your response be to this? I actually emailed the LP with these questions but got no response.

  14. MP   20 years ago

    sage,

An illogically drawn conclusion does not merit a response.

  15. DraculavaTory Amos   20 years ago

    Hunting girl,

Would it have been better if he substituted a riding crop for the whip?

"This highborn hunter had tastes as strange as they come."

  16. NoStar   20 years ago

Guilty as charged. While I now remember Drew telling that joke, more recently it was e-mailed to me without any credits.

mea culpa. please, pretty please, don't throw me out of this collective or should I say collection of misfits.

I do so love it here. I don't ever want to go back to Slate and the Fray.

  17. joe   20 years ago

    MP,

The LP states that children should have the same rights as adults.

They also state that adults should have the right to engage in prostitution.

Ergo, the LP argues that children have a right to engage in prostitution.

    Where's the illogic?

  18. NoStar   20 years ago

I should have used the punch line I wrote:

He turns around and says, "I just shit in your purse and fucked your dog in the ass. So, unless you want to clean off my dick with your tongue, I'm all done."

  19. NoStar   20 years ago

SPD, Use that punchline at Thanksgiving.

  20. hunting girl   20 years ago

    DracuLavatory,
Would it have been better if he substituted a riding crop for the whip?

Yep. And don't forget the saddle!

    NoStar,
You are sick, yet hilarious. Your new ending made that joke funny again.

  21. SPD   20 years ago

    NoStar,

I'll say it extra-loud so Grandmom can hear me.

    God, I make myself sick.

  22. jessica   20 years ago

    Xmas-
Who are the sex offender couples you're talking about? I'm trying to think of well-known cases and am drawing a blank.

  23. Eric the .5b   20 years ago

The LP states that children should have the same rights as adults.

They also state that adults should have the right to engage in prostitution.

Ergo, the LP argues that children have a right to engage in prostitution.

That may well be, but the national LP is largely a collection of twitchy anarchists, crypto-neo-confederates, and huxter salesmen, with that last group in charge. They're good for a protest vote if you're not up to the dignity of writing in Mickey Mouse.

  24. fyodor   20 years ago

    Xmas,

Not doubting, just curious: how does dating another sex offender violate their "release conditions?" (BTW, this is a parole issue?)

    joe,

Does the LP really state that children categorically have the same rights as adults? I know the LP takes things to extremes, but I'm a little skeptical of that one.

  25. SR   20 years ago

fyodor: "how does dating another sex offender violate their 'release conditions?' (BTW, this is a parole issue?)"

As far as I'm aware, a standard condition of parole (regardless of whether the parolee was convicted of a sex crime) is that the parolee cannot associate with "known felons" or similar persons.

  26. Jim Walsh   20 years ago

Loved that Drew Carey joke. Send it to Brent Bozell; with any luck, his head will explode.

  27. ObiQuiet   20 years ago

Yes. What is the source of the "history of sex offender couples?"

  28. Mr. Nice Guy   20 years ago

I recently read a joke (I think it was on ebaumsworld.com) that made me lol..

A man actually gives in to those internet ads and goes in to get his penis enlarged. It was a pretty radical procedure that involved graphing in the trunk of a baby elephant to his member. Anyway, after weeks of recovery the man and his wife sat down to dinner to celebrate. Suddenly, his penis appeared, reached across the table, grabbed a dinner roll, and shot back into his pants. After many minutes of exchanging shocked looks, the wife calmed down and raised an eyebrow.

Wife: "Wow, I would love to see that again".

Man (small voice): "Yeah, but I don't think I can fit another roll in my ass.."

  29. Gimme Back My Dog   20 years ago

There was that Canadian couple that went on a brutal rape/murder spree. I don't think either had a previous sex felony, though.

I think the case was discussed in political circles because the Canadian courts blocked media access, but some American newspapers near the border were covering the case and selling their papers in CA.

  30. xray   20 years ago

The Bernardos. But that's just one sex-offender couple, not a history. And although Karla was in on the crimes, she was not a known sex offender before they were busted. Paul had been pulled in and his DNA collected cuz he was a supsect in the Scarborough rapist case, but it was years before he got busted for the murders.

  31. The Wine Commonsewer   20 years ago

Sage, the guy's an idiot. No libertarian is suggesting that 8 year olds become prostitutes.

In fact, if you touch my 8 year old I'll administer capital punishment myself.

  32. The Wine Commonsewer   20 years ago

Dog, there are a few others. We had one locally where the couple befriended the neighbor girl and spent many a lazy afternoon doing three ways and shooting videos.

It was shocking to lots of people because they were Asian and everybody knows that Asian's don't do that sort of thing. At least not here.

Of course, as a parent I would immediately.......I guess I don't have to point out that the parents of the girl must have put a high premium on the free babysitting.

Children Should Be Obscene & Not Heard Regards,

    TWC
