DoD Down
With the headline "Rumsfeld says 9-11 plane 'shot down' in Pennsylvania…" Drudge links to this World Net Daily story in which Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld says the unsayable about Flight 93:
I think all of us have a sense if we imagine the kind of world we would face if the people who bombed the mess hall in Mosul, or the people who did the bombing in Spain, or the people who attacked the United States in New York, shot down the plane over Pennsylvania and attacked the Pentagon, the people who cut off peoples' heads on television to intimidate, to frighten -- indeed the word 'terrorized' is just that. Its purpose is to terrorize, to alter behavior, to make people be something other than that which they want to be.
"Was it a slip of the tongue?" asks WND. "Was it an error? Or was it the truth, finally being dropped on the public more than three years after the tragedy of the terrorist attacks that killed nearly 3,000?"
Well, all the flight 93 conspiracy theories I've heard concern suggestions from ground witnesses that the plane was shot down by a U.S. fighter plane (presumably to prevent an attack on D.C.). Unless things are even weirder than I think, nobody is suggesting that the Air Force is part of the group that bombed Mosul and Spain, etc. So I think Rumsfeld's statement is clearly both an error and a slip of the tongue. (Having more than once called the 9/11 hijackers "bombers" in conversation, I know how these slips sometimes carry no deeper meanings.) But it will be interesting to see if there's any more fallout from this comment—another disturbing reminder of how much of the accepted 9/11 narrative you (and I) believe not because there's a huge amount of evidence for it but because believing it is easier than not believing it.
Am I the only one who sees sinister implications in the fact that the 9/11 Commission Report lacks an index?
Update: Pentagon spokesman says the SoD misspoke.

"Am I the only one who sees sinister implications in the fact that the 9/11 Commission Report lacks an index?"
Probably not. Sadly.
The Warren Report also lacked an index. Make what you will of it ...
If you recall, George Stephanopolous once (on ABC) referred to the "bombing of TWA 800". That one was a lot harder to explain away. (You can Google it up easily).
I just presume the governement is lying to me, that way I'm pleasantly surprised on those rare occasions when it isn't.
Just goes to show how much energy this administration has to spend to actually keep track of all its lies.
"We didn't lie about that right? Oh we did?...Shit."
PS: What happened to your "Reason holiday"? Goddamn heretics don't even respect your own made up sabbath.
on that awful day both norwegian and austrian reports that the PA flight was shot down, too.
even if it were, that shouldn't take away from the bravery of those who battled those asshole terror fuckers. who are rotting in the worst hell.
seeing something nefarious in his slip may be going a bit far and data mining/ cherry picking. after all, we wouldn't do that if kerry were prez, would we? 😉
oh, and reason did the roman holiday...

Every other reference in that quote refers to acts committed by the terrorists. Seems to me he misphrased his description of the hijacking of the flight.
That's odd. Democrats.com - which was pushing the "shot down" story for a while - seems to have nothing on Rumsfeld's remarks. DU only has one thread that I could find. Thankfully, Art Bell will be broadcasting this weekend, so we'll have to wait for then to get the truth.
(Rumsfeld's comment was just a slip of the tongue. 9/11 happened almost exactly as described. Don't be a bunch of tinfoil mad hatters.)
I don't get why this would be such a huge scandal (besides of course the fact that we'd been lied to about what really happened with F93).
If that flight was ordered to land, as all flights were after the WTC fell, but did not comply, what was the USAF supposed to do, wait around and watch it hit the Capitol or White House?
Of course, if you want a good outline for the plot of a 9/11 conspiracy theory, it was on TV in March 2001:
http://killtown.911review.org/lonegunmen.html
Of course, it was a bit bizarre when, just after 9/11, the FAA refused to allow the families of those aboard Flight 93 to hear the black box recording, saying it was "too graphic." After a few months, the agency flip-flopped and produced a recording for them to hear.
Was it a stalling tactic, or merely a grammatical mistake (how can an audio recording be graphic, anyway?)? You decide.
This whole set-up was a test of the national "emergency tinfoil hat alert system."
Thanks to, of all people, Lonewacko, I think the test was successful.
Now can we move on to when CBS will be releasing the results of their internal investigation?
crimethink,
That's just it. Flight 93 was at the center of a whole manufactured agitprop campaign involving Beamer, "Let's Roll (TM)," the whole nine yards. It was as much a manufactured media phenomenon as the fall of Saddam's statue in April 2003 or MSNBC's "America's Bravest" wall. Nothing but prolefeed.
We don't want the serfs who supply the tax money and cannon fodder, the people with flags on their SUVs, starting to wonder how much of the rest of their consensus reality is similarly manufactured.
The USAF would've been right to shoot down the plane, rather than let it hit the White House or Capitol.
There would've been no misdeed to cover up.
So: why assume the gov't IS or WOULD BE covering up a tragic, though justified, act of national defense?
Reflexive paranoia?
Wishful thinking?
I can't believe how quick people are to suspect that Rumsfeld might be a lying weasel. I mean, it's not like he and his co-conspirators ever distorted the facts about the ties between Iraq and AQ or staged an invasion on the premise of nonexistent WMDs.
Here's my ultimate conspiracy theory about that flight. I don't believe a word of it, but I post it to demonstrate how deranged my imagination can be:
The terrorist piloting the plane suddenly got cold feet. He didn't want to kill any more people than he already had killed to get control of the cockpit. He didn't want to destroy a building full of people. So he requested clearance to land at the nearest airstrip. Somebody in DC realized that the Big Plan would unravel if that happened, so he ordered the plane shot down and a story fabricated about how the passengers heroically crashed it to save a building in DC.
Let me emphasize, I don't believe this story, but it's fun to plumb the depths of my imagination.
thoreau,
Weren't the terrorist-pilots trained only to fly, not to land or take off?
Oops, forgot to turn off "Remember Me?"...
