Iodine Kingpin
It's still legal to sell iodine in Colorado; just don't sell too much of it. Neil Cizek, owner of Cherokee Tack and Feed, is facing up to 12 years in prison for doing just that. Iodine can be used to make methamphetamine, and state law makes it illegal knowingly to sell chemicals used to make meth. And authorities say they've discovered receipts for iodine bought from Cizek in local math labs. But Cizek says iodine has plenty of legitimate uses, including treating equine hoof disease and cleaning out septic tanks. And he says he can't tell how buyers will use what he sells. "I couldn't jump in my truck and follow everyone that's bought it," said Cizek, who claims to have asked buyers what they intended to do with the iodine and checked their identification as required by the law.
