Whatever Became of Charlie Chad?
Election day brings back a favorite Double-K memory, and a question: Who was the famous big-eyed chad counter, and why wasn't he able to parlay his moment of glory into a career as a David Leisureish ironic celebrity?
Couldn't CNBC find this guy a slot between Dennis Miller and McEnroe? Wouldn't you tune in to see him bugging out his eyes at bloviating celebrity guests?
I guess I could probably find out about the chad guy myself, but that would ruin the mystery…

There was a funny Photoshopped version of this pic floating around after the 2000 election. It had the ballot with a series of holes spelling out "Bush" backwards (facing the guy).
It's Judge Robert Rosenberg. I'd find out what he's doing now, but I'll leave that for someone who is truly interested in knowing.
Is it just me or does he bear a striking resemblance to Christopher Lloyd? Though I guess he would've just revved up the DeLorean and changed the results retroactively.
Another great picture of him here:

here is a link to an interview with him in smithsonaina magazine

Julian, he also looks a bit like character actor Kurt Fuller, who, interestingly, played Karl Rove in "That's My Bush!" He's at left in this photo.
Wait a minute - why is David Leisure an "ironic celebrity"? Is there a legion of devoted fans of Empty Nest or am I missing something.
Empty Nest was a great show. Don't mock Empty Nest.
He looks a bit like Jon Lovitz.
My favorite ironic celeb was Baghdad Bob. He was hillarious and an enemy. Whatever happened to him anyways?
He lives on in cyberspace
(and in a US military prison at an undisclosed location)

Hey -- if you look closely and add a goatee, you'll discover that the chad guy and the Ultimate Fitness guy are the same person.
Hey now, I wasn't saying anything bad about Empty Nest.
Well, except for when NBC had a theme night where a hurricane blew through south Florida and the theme carried over from the Golden Girls to Empty Nest, cause that was pretty fuckin lame.
I believe that the allusion is not to Mr. Leisure's time on Empty Nest, but to his career as "Joe Isuzu."
