That Smell
When Amanda Bates went to her high school assistant principal's office to report she felt sick, she probably expected sympathy or maybe a call to her family. But she likely didn't expect the administrator to grab her shirt, smell it and smell her hair. The official then declared she smelled like smoke, and therefore she must have been smoking. It's against the rules of the Rockdale County, Georgia, school to smoke on campus, so she was given five days detention. Amanda, who has never had a discipline problem before, says she doesn't smoke. Her father agrees, but says she may have been hanging around children who do smoke off campus.
