I dunno what the heck happened, I posted what follows in a similarly titled thread, got booted by my ISP, came back, and the thread was gone. Anyway, what I wrote was this:

I imagine the Clinton crew that has taken over his campaign were ready to bitch slap him last nite, and demand that he fucking shut up about Viet Nam. All it does is play into the huge vet uprising against him, which is about to go into hyper-drive when Stolen Honor -- the documentary -- is released later this month.

One former POW after another recounts how their Communist torturers used Kerry's words against them and to deny that they were entitled to Geneva Convention protections, since they were "war criminals."

What is Kerry going to reap from his utter insistence on blathering about Viet Nam?

Let us look at Ms.Jane Fonda, who bankrolled Kerry's VVAW in the 70s, and who has given his 527s millions today:

--One story is told by Jerry Driscoll, an F-4E pilot, who was a River Rat and a former POW in Ho Lo Prison-the "Hanoi Hilton." Dragged from a stinking cesspit of a cell, cleaned, fed, and dressed in clean PJs, he was ordered to describe for a visiting American "Peace Activist" the "lenient and humane treatment" he'd received. He spat at Fonda, was clubbed, and dragged away. During the subsequent beating, he fell forward upon the camp Commandant's feet, accidentally pulling the man's shoe off-which sent that officer berserk. In 1978, the Air Force colonel still suffered from double vision (which permanently ended his flying days) from the frenzied application of the wooden baton.

Col Larry Carrigan spent 6 years in the "Hilton"--the first three of which he was "missing in action". His group, too, got the cleaned/fed/clothed routine in preparation for a "peace delegation" visit. They, however, had time and devised a plan to get word to the world that they still survived. Each man secreted a tiny piece of paper, with his social security number on it, in the palm of his hand. When paraded before Fonda and a cameraman, she walked the line, shaking each man's hand and asking little encouraging snippets like: "Aren't you sorry you bombed babies?" and "Are you grateful for the humane treatment from your benevolent captors?" Believing this HAD to be an act, they each palmed her their sliver of paper. She took them all without missing a beat. At the end of the line and once the camera stopped rolling, to the shocked disbelief of the POWs, she turned to the officer in charge...and handed him the little pile. Three men died from the subsequent beatings.--

This is what urban-legend debunker snopes.com reports about Fonda, the Kerry supporter, and what she said of our POWs when they came home:

--To add insult to injury, when American POWs finally began to return home (some of them having been held captive for up to nine years) and describe the tortures they had endured at the hands of the North Vietnamese, Jane Fonda quickly told the country that they should "not hail the POWs as heroes, because they are hypocrites and liars." Fonda said the idea that the POWs she had met in Vietnam had been tortured was "laughable," claiming: "These were not men who had been tortured. These were not men who had been starved. These were not men who had been brainwashed." The POWs who said they had been tortured were "exaggerating, probably for their own self-interest," she asserted. She told audiences that "Never in the history of the United States have POWs come home looking like football players. These football players are no more heroes than Custer was. They're military careerists and professional killers" who are "trying to make themselves look self-righteous, but they are war criminals according to law." --

Again, Kerry took her $$ in the 70s to promote his lies, and his 527s are taking it now.

He is insane to keep Viet Nam front and center in his campaign, but far be it from me to stop him.

"The most serious accusations in the piece quoted above -- that Fonda turned over slips of paper furtively given her by American POWS to the North Vietnamese and that several POWs were beaten to death as a result -- are proveably untrue. Those named in the inflammatory e-mail categorically deny the events they supposedly were part of."

Guilt by association doesn't impress me much. Fonda isn't running for president.

Y'know, I said why bother, but now that I've seen what you put in there knowing it was demonstrably untrue, I'd have to say that you actions were pretty damned insidious.

I admire you for taking the time to do the research to write such a wonderfully nuanced article. I am hopefull that its shows you have the intelectual honesty to review the events surrounding John Kerry's anti Vietnam war efforts.

That he visited the enemy not once but twice is not in dispute. That he espoused exactly the North's position as his own after meeting with the enemy is not in dispute.

That he accused under oath before Congress all US servicemen and the administation as being war criminals is not in dispute.

That some POWs stated that Kerry' words were flung back at them as proof that they were war criminals is not in dispute.

Kerry's supporters response - he was a young man at the time- is not acceptable. If you parade your service in Vietnam as a badge of honor then words and deeds when you come back are equally in play.

Most vets did not have problems when they came home. Kerry was one of the reasons those vets with problems had so much trouble when they came home. Everyone knew they were baby killers. Who wants to help someone like that.

John Kerry's nomination by the Democrats may be the best thing that has happened for these vets. They have someone to vent their anger at. If he is defeated then maybe, just maybe, these vets will get the homecoming they deserve.

Where did Kerry accuse ALL U.S. soldiers of being war criminals? He said that war crimes had been committed, which we know is true. Not only that, but he was speaking for scores of other disillusioned vets whom he was representing. He did accuse the U.S. leadership of being war criminals, basically, but you seem to suggest that this was self-evidently false, or that even if it was true he had no business saying it. Personally, if my gov't is ordering soldiers to commit war crimes, I want someone like Kerry blowing the whistle on them.

I respect Kerry for serving, and I respect him for protesting the war after he came to believe that it was wrong. I'm more concerned about his other faults than anything to do with Vietnam.

I hope Kerry keeps bragging about being a war hero. The Swiftees are just getting warmed up and are going haunt Kerry the rest of the campaign.

Veterans don't like Kerry's VVAW activities and we will not be voting for Kerry.

Anyway, if the GOP wants to define itself as the party that STILL thinks the Vietnam War was a good idea, STILL thinks opposing the war was wrong, and STILL thinks our military's actions there (and in Laos, and in Cambodia) were beyond reproach, joe sez, go on with your bad self! You tried the Kerry/Fonda thing six months ago, it went over like a lead balloon. But you're welcome to try again.
