Shuffling Off This Mortal Helix
Francis Crick, co-discoverer of the structure of DNA, has died. His work may eventually provide the key to dramatically prolonging the rest of our lives.

No comments for Crick? This makes me sad. Can't say I know very much about the man. Last time I saw him speak he was very old and had trouble putting a sentence together. But, he seemed engaged and on top of the latest developments in genetic research. At any rate, "The Double Helix" was a historically significant work. A sort of science mystery full of political back-stabbing. Common enough these days but groundbreaking at the time. I put it on the short list with The Principia, and Evolution of a Species.

I wanted to say something too. I was a chemist in school, not a biologist, but we worked with photchemistry affecting DNA in grad school, so a lot of papers started with "Crick's work on DNA..."
I first learned about him in high school, when I watched Jeff Goldblum in the movie "The Race for the Double Helix" or some such. Amazing, world-changing work that we take for granted these days. God rest him well.
I've met Watson before and he's pretty much that way in private too. 🙂
Watson wrote the ego vehicle known as The Double Helix, not Crick. Watson is also famously known for being a jackass.
