How To Make Drugs: A Lesson From Your Friendly Government
The US Drug Enforcement Agency has an astonishingly thorough guide to growing and harvesting opium poppies, then converting the products into morphine and heroin. There are even photos and diagrams of the process, information on growing cycles and climate, and detailed instructions. An excerpt:
An empty 55-gallon oil drum is placed on bricks about a foot above the ground and a fire is built under the drum. Thirty gallons of water are added to the drum and brought to a boil. Ten to 15 kilograms of raw opium are added to the boiling water.
With stirring, the raw opium eventually dissolves in the boiling water, while soil, leaves, twigs, and other non-soluble materials float in the solution. Most of these materials are scooped out of the clear, dark brown ?liquid opium? solution.
Slaked lime (calcium hydroxide) or, more often, a readily available chemical fertilizer with a high content of lime, is added to the solution. Lime will convert water- insoluble morphine alkaloid into water-soluble calcium morphenate. (Other opium alkaloids do not react with lime to form water-soluble calcium salts, as does morphine.) Codeine is an opium alkaloid that is slightly water-soluble and some codeine will be carried over with the calcium morphenate in the liquid. Otherwise, for the most part, the other alkaloids will become a part of the ?sludge.?
As the solution cools, the morphine solution is scooped from the drum and poured through a filter. Cloth rice sacks are often used as filters and can then be squeezed in a press to remove most of the solution from the wet sacks. Liquid saponated cresol (?lysol?) is commonly added to the solution to facilitate filtering. The morphine-rich solution is then poured into large cooking pots and reheated but, this time, not boiled…
A great new blog by Chicago law professor Jim Leitzel, Vice Squad, has posts about this and many other government intrusions into drugs, alcohol, prostitution, gambling, pornography, and more.

Do they have a section on growing pot?
Now if only the Department of Homeland Security will put up a website detailing how to build dirty bombs.
I'm just glad to know that if I ever have a desire to produce illegal, addictive, profitable substances, my government can tell me how to do it right.
But, really, it's not as if the information couldn't be found elsewhere if the government didn't supply it.
Many years ago when my brother was arrested for drunk driving, he was forced to take a class telling him it?s bad to drive drunk. The best part of the class was the tips how to avoid being arrested. For example: don?t drive with your windows down in the middle of the winter; and when you go downhill, let the car speed up a bit, because only drunks stay right at the speed limit when going downhill.
Well, making morphine out of big blocks of opium isn't that hard. It's the heroin manufacture that's the tricky part. For that you need acetic anhydride, a chemical probably more controlled than morphine. It's a real pain in the ass, and it makes the place smell like rotten pickles.
Does anybody really want drugs made to government specifications? Wouldn't that take the fun out of it?
I take back what I just wrote. I imagine that members of Congress probably know where to get the best stuff!
I checked my shelves. Raw opium. Don't have any. Everything else is doable. Does anyone know the best place to buy that on-line?

Acetic anhydride isn't as controlled as morphine. I used it in a couple lab courses in college without any more regulation that a typical hazardous chemical.
I'd think the hard part would be the large poppy fields - at 250,000 plants per hectacre, 13 kg of opium per hectacre makes 1.3 kg of morphine, 1 kg of morphine makes 685-937 g of heroin (all numbers from the DoJ page), the yield is ~3.6-4.9 mg of heroin per plant.
Hmm... I'll have to try that sometime...
Will they send me the seeds as well?
Kind of sounds like a chili cookoff.
Since possesing the plants and knowing how to make opium is really all that's needed to secure a conviction, the government's just doing it's duty by the prosecutors by ensuring the info has the widest dissemination.
you can buy the seeds online there legal http://www.jlfcatalog.compick up some human placenta while your there too and B get your brother a sobrity check point sign
All i need to know is how to take the oium plant from my front yard and make me some smokable opium!
After you have extracted morphine, are the other alkaloids still smokable? and if so are they potent?
