Mistaken Identity
Martin Goldberg and his wife Anna, a couple in their 80s, were alone in their apartment when someone knocked on the door shouted "Police!" Six officers from the New York Police Department stormed into the apartment, bruising Goldberg and told his wife, who was in bed, to get on the floor. Police told the couple they were looking for a 24-year-old black man whom an informant said sold drugs in the apartment. Though neither of the Goldberg's met that description, the police took two hours to search the place while repeatedly asking the couple if they knew where the man they were looking for was. Police eventually had to call an ambulance for Mrs. Goldberg, who developed an irregular heartbeat. A police spokesman later admitted they had the wrong building.
