Bill Joy is a typical example of how the nouveaux riches love to pull up the ladder behind them. He made his billions as a tech entrepreneur, but God forbid that anybody else be allowed to do the same. Therefore, technical progress must stop. On second thought, that might not be a bad idea if future techies are going to turn out to be public nuisances like him.
On a practical level, it is far too late -- this Pandora's box has already been opened.
