Another Baghdad Blast
Another hotel, many dead. This dispatch includes quotes of Iraqis blaming the U.S., some praising the U.S., and some just in utter disbelief.
That sounds about right.

just a reminder:
"Beyond the Euphrates began for us the land of mirage and danger, the sands where one helplessly sank, and the roads which ended in nothing. The slightest reversal would have resulted in a jolt to our prestige giving rise to all kinds of catastrophe; the problem was not only to conquer but to conquer again and again, perpetually; our forces would be drained off in the attempt."
Emperor Hadrian AD 117-138
God rest their souls.

Guess it's a good thing we're not there to conquer, then. 🙂
Dan,
When Julius Caesar was over that way earlier, he wrote, "I came. I saw. I conquered."
Problem is Dubya is no Julius Caesar.
Ahh... Julius. There was a guy so cool they had to kill him.
> Iraqis blaming the U.S.
Iraqis were blaming the U.S. for not cracking down harder..
O'Ruthless,
You must be referring to his sweep through Asia Minor in 47 BCE; however, the area he swept through is not the area that Hadrian was discussing. Indeed, Parthia gave the Romans fits throughout much of Rome's life, and remained undefeated by Rome until the arrival of the Islamic empire.
If Dubya isn't on a Crusade over there, what's his point?
jb,
Where I think I'm headed is said better by IAN BURUMA in a guest editorial in today's New York Times.
Ah, yes, a yearning for the pre-9/11 world where my classmates and business acquaintences hadn't been burned alive in the inferno of the WTC North Tower.
If only we would mend fences with the politicians on Saddam's payroll all would be well and good. And terrorism isn't terrorism when it's only Kikes being blown up along with their squaling brats in Pizzarias. They deserve it anyway.
Isn't that the European mindset shared by Pradi, Zapateria, and the uber-corrupt Chirac?

Matthew Cromer,
Hmm, you need to acquire better trolling skills.
Sorry for the multiple posts. The window was going out to space and I didn't know if the text had been sent.
Note to Reason: As a software developer, it's remarkably easy to write software to detect multiple posts and prevent them from showing up.
Jean Bart,
I'm sure you could teach lessons on trolling with your antireligious (et al) bigotry that drives evenhanded, respectful, level-headed folks like John Hood to eschew your conversation.

I declare a thumb war
Just in the interest of historical accuracy, the Parthians were long, long gone before the Islamic Empire arose. But they did give Rome fits. . .
"Isn't that the European mindset shared by Pradi, Zapateria, and the uber-corrupt Chirac?'
Yes, along with a lust for torturing kittens and kicking blind people.
Why does everyone who disagrees with you have to be evil? Can't they just be mistaken?
Matthew Cromer,
I'm sure most here empathize with your mob/posse mentality, and it would be appropriate if a mob/posse were adequate for the job, but Superpowers have made this mess and Superpowers are LEAST capable of cleaning it up.
The only alternative is to put in your two cents to get Superpowers to go back into Clark Kent mode and remain.
Matthew Cromer,
Oh no; someone is anti-religious. That is simply not right; we must stone him!

Ahh, no. As my wife is Jewish, and we both Europeans, we would find such a mind-set rather strange. But I see this is just another attempt to do a bit of trolling.
BTW, their names are "Prodi" and "Zapatero."
John Hood,
Well, I was lumping the Parthians and Sassanid Empire together; given that they were both Persian in origin (though their leadership derived from different tribes, etc.). But you are correct; the Parthians did not last past ~240 CE. The Sassanid's existed until the 7th century CE; when the Islamic empire took them over. Anyway, Rome (the western Empire) only outlasted the Parthians by just over 200 years.
Superpowers have made this mess and Superpowers are LEAST capable of cleaning it up.
Well O'Ruthless it is obvious you are no Super power. Why not clean it up before we have to send in W. again. You know I can't restrain him when bombs start going off. Please, please, please, show us how it is done.
Note to all the non-Super Powers of the World. Clean up the mess with the fascists soon. Before W. unleashes another wave of war.
After all we are only a nation of 300 million among six billion. Surely there are 5.7 billion of you who could do something.
Oh wait I forgot. It is the 12 million Jews (well maybe only the few thousand neo-cons) of the world running the 300 million running the 5.7 billion.
You know. You fellers are pathetic.
If the Islamics are underfed and oppressed surely you could feed them and stop their humiliation by making them powerful and proud.
Wait. I get it now. By surrendering you are doing exactly that. I'm a little slow here. But I do catch on over time. I suppose a French surrender is not all the Islamics could hope for but pride is where you find it, eh? And France AND Spain? Things are definitely looking up for Islamic pride.
Keep up the good work. How's tthe study of sharia coming along by the way? So many rules. So many interpretations.
Jean Bart, while I am also a non-theist and rationalist, I have to concur that you sometimes are rude and bigoted in your commentary about religionists. You recently accused one of not thinking something through and claimed this was to be expected due to his religiosity.
When others pointed out some of the highly succesful men of religion in history, you sniffed that all this demonstrates is that they compartmentalize. Well, then why not allow that religious posters here can also compartmentalize, and not diss their political views on the basis of their religious beliefs?
Now, Mr. Comer has, in another thread, also done a bit of sniffing, in his case at "materialists." The implication is that their demand for evidence (of paranormal claims) is somehow sullied by their godless heathenism. Debates are productive when speculations about motives and ad hominems are kept to a minimum, if employed at all.

The israelis say they "shalt catch men" (luke 5:10) and "I will make you fishers of men" (matthew 4:18,19). The bible is simply a confusing crime against humanity: http://home.earthlink.net/~ezcircut
Also, deception is killing American troops. We have the "Silver Bullet". 80-85% of israelis are ashkenazi. The rabbis used to be appointed by the nasi patriarch. This is from many sources including Britannica. All communications are cut off by the israeli scum at the Military recruiting stations. They're all israeli.
In the USpto dirty david irvine is also israeli. They're waging a takeover. They have our money, we need to bleed them and get it back. According to the U.S. Constitution: Article 1, Section 8, Clause 8 there is no legal possibility for dirty david irvine to deny my original claims. He's a kike. The attorneys, being israelis, are getting false degrees. Therefore, they render no assistance.

You might say that the word 'kike' is a radical term but they destroyed the WTC (see the aforementioned website) and they are worse than the worst criminals that Americans have ever imagined.
