Latest terror threat: electrically heated motorcycle jacket. Paris-to-Cincy flight all botched up, reverse screened upon landing.

    "Paris-to-Cincy flight all botched up"

A Paris-to-Cincy flight is botched up *as a concept*, never mind the real-world aspects.

Jon, 2 year Cinci (Clifton) resident.

  2. jat   22 years ago

You know, I wondered about WHY there was Paris-to-Cincy flight, at all............

What amuses me most is that the people who scream "The Bush Administration knew about the World Trade Center attack and failed to stop it!" also scream "The Bush Administration is needlessly harassing innocent people!"

You can't have your cake and eat it too.

But hey, these are the same people that try to tax the country rich -- so what can you expect?

    Will Spencer,

Well, the Bush administration had nothing to do with. She was removed in Paris (Charles de Gaulle); by French authorities.

"A Homeland Security Department official said: 'The French called us and they told us about their concern and that they had removed her from the plane.'"

Those evil Danes, Swedes, Finns and Portugese must hate America!

    Um, ok.

If a Swedish plane gets hijacked on its way into New York City, or Washington, or LA, or Gary Indiana for that matter, it's going to get shot down by the US Air Force.

The passengers will, however, be able to content themselves with the knowledge that the Swedish government didn't cave in to US pressure to put air marshals on the planes.

The Danes, Swedes, Finns and Portugese may or may not hate America. They are, however, running a gamble here, and I'm not too sure it's a smart play.

  9. Douglas Fletcher   22 years ago

Yeah, let's rely on those crack Danish, Swedish, Finnish and Portuguese intelligence agencies to determine if there's a terrorist threat on the airplane. They always had the KGB going around in circles, I hear.

  10. AJMB   22 years ago

Actually, I'm pretty certain that the Swedes have a reasonably decent elint capability. How else to explain their coastal patrol boats' habit of 'bumping' into relatively stealthy Soviet/Russian subs in the Baltic?

  11. Jon H   22 years ago

yelowd writes: "Why would the terrorists pick an int'l flight?
By the time it got here it wouldn't have much fuel left to replicate the damage done by av fuel to the towers."

I doubt they have to do as much damage again. Another crash-the-plane-into-something is going to *freak us out*, no matter how much damage is done.

  12. R C Dean   22 years ago

Actually, I'm pretty certain that the Swedes have a reasonably decent elint capability.

Too bad electronic intelligence is nearly useless in dealing with terrorists.

  13. yelowd   22 years ago

Why would the terrorists pick an int'l flight?
By the time it got here it wouldn't have much fuel left to replicate the damage done by av fuel to the towers. Sure, they originally thought they could knock one of the towers over, but if they just watched one documentary they'd know that av fuel is the key to destruction. That and I would think it is a whole lot less risky to flash a fake or real DL vs. getting a passport and jumping through hops to get to the US.

  14. rvman   22 years ago

They would pick an international flight if they couldn't be sure of getting an domestic one. Steal plane, crash into office tower isn't the only thing you can do with a plane. Even an empty tanked plane would do a fair amount of damage rammed into the right type of chemical plant. Just flying the beast around for a while, or making the American air force shoot you down, (did they REALLY have to do that? Was it REALLY hijacked, or did someone on the plane know something about Bush/Halliburton/911 CIA connections/whatever...) will get them the headlines they want.

  15. AJMB   22 years ago

R.C.: What else would you classify Western eavesdropping on terrorist 'chatter' as, if not electronic intelligence?

  16. Jean Bart   22 years ago

America's demand for air marshals on all transatlantic flights encountered further problems yesterday when four countries said they would not comply and a fifth said it believed sufficient precautions were already in place.

Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Portugal said they would not allow the armed guards to travel and would cancel flights if the sort of risk existed that justified having them on board. South Africa said its security measures were already sufficient.
