Instead of inane crap like this – why has no one even mentioned how Mr. “Democracy at the end of a gun for the whole world” Bush has turned his back on Taiwan so to appease despotic china?

  2. D.R.F   22 years ago

John Ashcroft is the real criminal.

Yeah, yeah. Wake me when China stops waving it’s dick in the air (we’re starting on a third generation of “all talk, no action” now) and actually invades Taiwan.

“Instead of inane crap like this…”

I agree! No fun topics here, God Damnit! We must be dour zombies *all the time*. What right does any one of us have to waste any of our precious time on fluff when the world’s going to hell in a handbasket! And don’t even think about laughing… laughing while the world burns is dispicable!

    Angrily,
    Andy D.

Yeah – don’t ya know Libertarians really just wanna get baked in peace without having to deal with the man?

Fuck China. Did they take our weed away? Nooooooooooo!

  7. Dave Straub   22 years ago

So is it illegal to sell bongs or not? No one seems to have raided the head shop here in Lancaster, PA.

  8. Pissed Off   22 years ago

The world is going to hell in a hand basket because people allow Tommy Chong to be locked up without mass protest. Doesn’t Ashcroft have better things to do with his time and our money? Can’t get a worth while terrorist conviction but we be damned if Chong continues walking as a free man.

I was disappointed in Bush’s remarks as well, and would agree that anyone with better than 20/100 vision can see the hypocrisy laden in them, but the phrase “turned his back” seems a bit strong. If Bush had really turned his back on Taiwan, he would’ve abandoned the Taiwan Relations Act, suspended arms sales to the country, and stated that the US won’t interfere if China decides to invade. He did none of those things; he just reaffirmed the status quo that existed when he took office.

Granted, I’m not fond of that status quo, and don’t think for a moment that Taiwan deserves the pariah status that’s been granted to it by the world in its efforts coddle the mainlanders, but reaffirming it is a far cry from truly giving the Taiwanese the shaft.

I’m going to have to think long and hard about signing at freetommychong.org. If I were really suspicious, I might think it was a COINTELPRO-type of operation. The site looks OK, but the graphic at the top and the text make it look like it was designed by stoner dudes. And, much more importantly, it appears to have been designed just for stoner dudes.

    Lose the:
    – marijuana green background
    – marijuana leaves at the top
    – stupid poll questions
    – text. Yes, just get rid of all the text.

Is there a petition I could sign that would just concentrate on the misuse of prosecutorial discretion and which didn’t have the subtle subtext of “legalize it! 4:20, dude!”

  11. not Weishaupt   22 years ago

The saddest thing is that Tommy will probably come down at some point during his time as a guest of the state and realize, “Oh my God, I’m still doing dope jokes?” Oh well.

  12. Kevin Carson   22 years ago

Some of the radio ads for a local head shop (Ahead of Our Times) still have voice-overs by Tommy Chong. He always says, “on Highway 420 in Siloam Springs–Highway 412, I mean.”

I wonder why they haven’t been shut down. Could it be that the legal standards for what constitutes drug paraphernalia are extremely arbitrary, and selectively enforced. I mean, a bong is just a friggin’ PIPE, for cryin’ out loud. It’s like singling out a few kinds of semi-automatic rifles because of purely cosmetic features like plastic pistol grips, and leaving the rest alone.

Has anyone ever mentioned here that the government is really stupid and irrational?

Next Movie is the best, or at least the first 45 minutes or so.

Poor Tommy Chong. That article is an outrage. It goes a little off the deep end though towards the end. I don’t see much difference in drug policy from Clinton to Bush II.

Why is Tommy in a county facility? I hought he was in federal court? Does anyone know?

Funny how Cheech plays a cop on that wretched Nash Bridges show, isn’t it? Good to see Tommy’s still smokin’. Although if he weren’t, he’d still be a free man. Nevermind.

    That is all.

  16. twistedmerkin   22 years ago

Kevin, a bong is actually more like a gun holster.

I agree, I too would much rather that the United States took a more pro-Taiwan policy and that republic?s status as a pariah is wholly unjustified. However, I think Bush?s recent statements probably have more to do with getting China?s assistance in putting multinational pressure on North Korea to stop its nuclear program than any change in policy or attitude. Until this gets resolved favorably or we come up with an alternate plan which does not rely on Chinese cooperation, we are probably going to have to make nice and do photo ops with one of the bloodiest regimes in history.

smoking the weed and living the “Yeah, dude” life.
