  1. Married people run the country, asmile. Talk about a majority imposing their will on a minority.

  2. Can we get of the “gay marraige” topic of a day or so? 🙂

  3. Cathy Young writes “The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court ruling which held that a ban on same-sex marriage violates the equal protection guarantees of the state Constitution has caused predictable reactions. To gay rights supporters, the decision is a legal and moral victory comparable to the triumph of the civil rights movement. To religious conservatives, it is virtually the end of civilization as we know it.”

The ruling has also caused some less predictable reactions. I’m a gay rights supporter who doesn’t find the decision “a legal and moral victory comparable to the triumph of the civil rights movement” because I question whether their compelling state interest in rewarding any couples–gay or straight–with special rights that aren’t available to people who prefer to remain unmarried.

  4. Joe:

Yes, in regards to anti-miscegenation laws I question whether there is compelling state interest in rewarding any couples–mixed race or not–with special rights that aren’t available to people who prefer to remain unmarried.

  5. I second the Merovingian – let’s get off the topic! That gay marriage thing looks like a quagmire anyway.

  6. asmile, do you feel the same way about the decisions overturning anti-miscegenation laws?
