Malaysia's justice department has proposed changes to the criminal code. The new code, which is inspired in part by Islamic Shariah, will criminalize much private sexual activity. Living with someone other than a spouse or family member would be punished with to up to two years in jail. A man who impregnates a woman but doesn't marry her would face up to five years in prison. Heterosexual sodomy and oral sex would be punishable by three to 12 years in jail, and homosexual sex could earn someone up to seven years in prison.
