More proof that statistics can be interpreted to prove any point. Most people don’t understand them anyway.

    Zog? Zog yes, zog no?

    Sorry, I couldn’t resist.

  3. Todd Fletcher   22 years ago

So the current score for misinterpreting polls is:
    Administration:1
    Mass Media: 234,834,858,865,644.

Just about a dead heat, eh?

  4. Sandy   22 years ago

    Zog? Zog yes, zog no?

“So they can understand our language, they just won’t speak it.”

    “Who knew they were French?”

Now, if we can only avoid President Clark…

    (also couldn’t resist)

Notice that none of the Zogby stuff affects the September Gallup Poll that found Saddam Hussein to be even less popular in Iraq than Gray Davis was in California (though admittedly, it was close).

All these opinion polls, and not once in my life have I ever been in one of them. I even change my mind once in a while, you’d think I’d be a good statistical counterweight or something for these people.

This is also especially humorous because it makes the folks at the Volokh conspiracy look like the dupes that they are. 🙂

I mean, did you read those idiotic rants that they had on the Darwin fish? Oh no! Can’t have the poor little Christians face some overt criticism! No way! Too delicate for their ears! By that very string of comments on the issue at that blog, can see why it doesn’t allow reader comments like Hit n’ Run does.

    Thank you for this info!

The pro-war pundits were touting this poll as evidence that Iraqis like the U.S. occupying their country. That claim is misleading, though. I might link to that article (or perhaps to this entry) in a blog entry.

    Arab logic always mystifies me.

  12. JSM   22 years ago

    Douglas,
I don’t even know someone who knows someone that knows someone who has been surveyed in a Gallup/USA Today/NYT/WSJ/WP/Zogby/Fox/etc poll!

Maybe I am not random enough!

  13. joe   22 years ago

That’s funny, I don’t recall comments about the inaccuracies of polls during the runup to the invasion.
