Today's a good day to recall one indisputable high point of The New York Times under the leadership of Howell Raines: The incredibly moving "Portraits of Grief" series that included obituaries for all the victims killed in the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center.
Unfolding over the weeks after the attack, each brief entry is a moving, understated, and powerful way of remembering the dead.
