Insult to Injury
When a friend threatened to commit suicide, Valerie Mueller called 911 and tried to calm him. By the time Milwaukee police arrived, the man had changed his mind. When Mueller went outside to let them know, her pet cocker spaniel bounded out to greet the cops. Officer Chaquila Peavy apparently thought the dog was a menace to her and the other officers, so she shot and killed it. The dog "fell over and flinched," said Mueller, who was standing about 10 feet behind the dog when the officer fired. Peavy then handed Mueller a $120 citation for not having her dog on a leash in her own yard.
