Rent a Friend
An LA hipster is auctioning off access to his circle of friends on e-Bay. The young entrepreneur humbly describes his crew on the Friendster network as "the very coolest and most exclusive group of peeps inline [sic] anywhere." (Via Joanne McNeil.)

The best part of this is that the high bid was $12.02. That'll barely buy two drinks in a trendy bar.
I wish I'd known about this. I saw the photo of him and his circle, and even $1000 would not have been too much to gain access, even for a few minutes.
BTW, I'm auctioning off a Luke Ford business card, and I have an old, pre-323 Gloria Allred business card I found in a drawer at the Salvation Army for sale as well. Join my circle!
Items like this are good for warning the truly cool people away from morons. If you find yourself in a group that looks like the photo, leave!
I still don't get why people like Friendster so much.
Friendster looks like a generic way to meet people. But then the result is you meet generic people. Therefore you have little reason to hang out with them.
It may be a generic way to meet people, but it's a good way to keep in touch with the ones you already know.
It just seems like the new makeoutclub.
