Well, It Is Taxachusetts
Between 4,000 and 5,000 Massachusetts taxpayers have gotten bills for taxes they have already paid, according to The Boston Globe. The state blames the problem on software used by electronic filers—software that had previously been approved by the state. The software asks taxpayers who owe money whether they want the payment withdrawn from their bank account. According to the state, those who answered "No" and paid by check instead were mistakenly treated by the computer system as if they had declined to make the payment. But a spokesperson for H & R Block, one of the companies that uses the software, says that this problem hasn't popped up in any of the other 49 states.
