Writing in The New Republic, Daniel Drezner discusses the worldwide nervousness inspired by Bush's doctrine of military pre-emption … then explains why he thinks "it would be very surprising both if there were another pre-emptive war during this administration -- and if the doctrine of pre-emption survived into the next one." i'm waiting to open the cold Stiegl M?rzen to start off the weekend... (summit brewing has some pretty good stuff, as you probably know)

what really gets me about the sammy thing is that the guy got busted, and our rep (who used to be the current gov, and this was in Dan Rostie's district, so you know it's clean, heh heh heh) says that sammy shouldn't be suspended because he said he was sorry. grrr. i think sammy got off easy -- as would any super star. he couldn't keep up with those awesome 95 mph fastballs (which are scarier than hell. jeez), and corked his bat this once to get his confidence back. and he got busted. just spare me this "i couldn't tell it was corked" bullshit. right. a pro not knowing what his rod weighs? ask tiger about his driver. betcha he knows if it's even one ounce off. i'll still cheer madly for him and still like him. just wish he'd come clean about this. but it's sports. not like wishing, say, a president would come clean. oh, wait. billy didn't cork monica. just got a hummer. (if he corked her, she wouldn't have talked, of course) ha ha.

whoops. that was rambling about... nothing at all. i'll enjoy the weekend. and if i were in france, i'd enjoy the strikes, also from the labor movement. heh heh heh.

In other words, it's a dumb idea. It was dumb when first written 12 years ago and rightfully buried. It was a dumb idea when they pulled it out and tried it on a year ago and it's a dumb idea now.
