A Few Bits at a Time
The 1999 Internet Tax Freedom Act explicitly bans state taxes on Internet access and "discriminatory" taxes which appliy only to Net services. So how is it that states are hitting digital subscriber lines and other Net services with what can only be called Net-specific surcharges? By calling the taxes "telephone" fees rather than "Internet" fees.
Folks, they are out to get us.

Isn't the internet interstate commerce? Doesn't the constitution forbid paying taxes on goods from another state?
We all "work" for the gubmint now.
"gubmint"?
Holy shit, are you british? I bet you eat your fries with mayo too 😉
Anywho, I find the entire concept of an agency (FCC, ATF, DEA, etc) to be rather disterbing. You have the power of all three branches of government tossed into one judicial sub-branch. Doesn't anyone else find it rather disterbing that the IRS has more armed agents than the FBI does?
-Robert
Since when does anyone listen to the constitution anymore?
Anywho, just remember, the government never takes it's hand out of your pocket unless it's holding your wallet.
-Robert
I wish I could work up a good outrage over this. I should be able to it has all the trademarks of gubmint (sorry Rob) grunning amuck, but it's just SOP. I've seen it repeated too many times and my wrath is far too puny to make any impact.
Thank god for drugs and alcohol.
I agree with Robert... the abuse will continue until the unlikely event of some governor being led away in handcuffs. They don't fear retaliation because they know they're personally immune from it.
Even if tax grab is found to be illegal, it won't come out of their pockets, and all that will be lost is someone else's money later on down the road.
Sorry Warren, gubmint can't run amuck.
Only INDIVIDUALS can run amuck.
And those individuals hiding in gubmint offices are rolling on the floor laughing, because they're safely concealed behind that catch-all term, "government."
Those individuals couldn't care less what we say or write, because until we have the name of a SPECIFIC INDIVIDUAL whom we can hold responsible for this action, you are just pissing in the wind.
This is exactly how those tenured individuals got away with abusing you, your father, your grandfather, et al, for the past 150 years -- by hiding behind that catch-all armor labeled "GOVERNMENT."
So watcha gonna do?
"just remember, the government never takes it's hand out of your pocket unless it's holding your wallet." -Robert
People working at government offices, and who are reading your post right now, are laughing their ass off, Robert.
"The government" doesn't have a "hand." Only specific individuals do. And they're laughing because you can't touch 'em; because they're safely ensconced behind that elusive non-entity called "government."
Those individuals ?working? in gubmint offices couldn't care less what we say here, or on the radio, or on TV, or on the internet, or in any magazine -- because until we have actual names of SPECIFIC INDIVIDUALS whom we can hold responsible for this rot, there ain't much you can do with or to "government."
They're as anonymous as I am.
