A Huff and a Puff

Home-supply retailer Lowe's just reversed a weeks-old policy of carding anyone who tried to buy paint. Turns out a lot of 18, 19, and 20-year-olds hold down jobs, live in dwellings, and otherwise are functioning members of society who do not "huff" paint or related products in order to get high.

The usual suspects are pissed about the latest change.

Look, these kids today have access to much more concentrated huffing inhalants compared to what people were huffing a generation ago. That innocent huffing you did in the '60's has turned in to a full fleged menace--it's like, one huff and BAM! you're addicted. And of course huffing paint thinner is only the gateway to abusing even harsher volatile organic compounds.

When I was 16ish I went to Wal-Mart to buy Paint Thinner, and found that they wouldn't sell it to you unless you were 18+. Apparently Wal-Mart is dedicated to keeping children from becomining painters - what the hell else are you suppose to use to thin paint and correct errors?

But here is the real 'shocking' part: Later I went to Wal-Mart to buy White Out...and guess what? Yes, apparently they have rules against school aged children buying that, too.

Thank God for Wal-Mart's dedicated effort to keep school supplies out of the hands of school children. Idiots.

That wasn't Wal-Mart's doing. That was angry parents who couldn't get the stuff cleaned off the table. (It's indelible.)

Besides, they've got alternatives: Correction tape in roll-on dispensers (Made in France, BTW.)
